You use UXTheme Multi Patcher to let you add custom styles (.msstyles).

*.msstyles files can be found at SkinBase, getskinned, skinz, DeviantArt, Customize.org, belchfire, etc etc

The easiest thing to do is to download the BricoPacks at CrystalXP which include the shell patch and various other apps (RocketDock, y's shadow, UberIcon, transbar...) that will let you modify your desktop's appearance.

You can also try the Vista Transformation Pack which is very similar.

There's Styler, Object Dock, glass2k, Google Desktopand a ton of other programs out there to let you fiddle with how your desktop looks and functions as well.

There are also a couple of retail applications to let you change your shell...StyleXP & WindowBlinds.

As always use common sense. The programs that change your desktop the most (UXTheme, BricoPacks, Total Transformation etc) also make the most changes to your system files so you want to be a bit carefull. Make sure you check the version of your OS against what the pack supports etc etc. I have never had any issues and the setups are pretty seamless these days but it's always a good idea to be cautious (be especially carefull when installing SP3.

BTW if you look at the older desktops I've posted in this thread HERE & HERE you can see some of the other task bars that are available (and two of those are directly from BricoPacks).
