POST-UPGRADE/HACKER: What's broken, what's fixed?

Clarity

Okay,

More or less done. Just a few lingering issues to hunt down and destroy, but nothing's major.

If you've encountered a problem on the site in the last, say, week -- try to reproduce it again now. This includes, but is not limited to, issues such as getting error messages when trying to edit posts, getting blank white pages when you turn your posts per page up to higher values, not being able to make use of a linked feature (galleries, book, etc.), not being able to use quick reply, or anything along those lines.

If something isn't functioning properly, or is missing, I want to know about it here. If something is still off-line, then please let me know.

The exception to this is the Top 10 hack. I am not currently satisfied that it has been securely re-coded to prevent the exploit (or those like it) that led to our little friend posting those redirects. If and when I am, then I will re-activate it.

I am interested in hearing about site speed relative BOTH to before the mods were re-enabled, and from before last Saturday when all of this started/before all the server changes were made.

KNOWN ISSUES:
No TopXStats (Top 10/Most Recent). (reviewing changes, pending)
[strike]Revised Warning System gives error message when "Give Infraction" is clicked.[/strike] (fixed)
LinkBack and MultiQuote buttons are blue.
Post Awards isn't applying the icon.
Rep Given table missing from UserCP.
[strike]Dead links in the navbar.[/strike] (fixed)
[strike]Old donation system gone/need a newer and cleaner one.[/strike] (done)

What's New:
(Where possible, I'm directly quoting from the developers, and/or the author of the modifications.)

Multi-Quote
The much-requested multi-quote feature allows users to tag multiple posts that they wish to respond to by clicking a small button on each post. Once the user clicks the reply button, each tagged post is quoted.

To increase usability, by default, only posts within the current thread are automatically quoted. If you wish to quote posts in other threads with multi-quote, you simply need to click a link on the reply page, and the text of those posts will be added without a reload.

Mark Forums Read with AJAX
If you wish to mark a forum read, you can simply click its status icon on the index page and the change will be processed without a reload. You can even mark individual sub-forums as read in the same way.

Quote Tags Link to Quoted Post
When quoting a post, the ID of the post is automatically included with the 'quote' tag. When the quoted text is viewed in a thread, a small icon links back to the quoted post.

New Buddy/Ignore List Editor Saves with AJAX
Along with a new interface, your buddy and ignore lists are saved with AJAX to prevent an unnecessary reload. Additionally to make the interface even easier to use, vBulletin searches for matching users as you type their names.

New Buddy/Ignore List Editor
The new buddy and ignore list editor allows users to be quickly added and removed from your lists, with AJAX-based assistance for name suggestion along the way. If an error occurs such as a user not being found, you can simply correct the error and continue without reloading the page.

Auto-Resize Oversized Image Attachments
If a user attaches an image that has dimensions larger than the administrator allows, the image will automatically resized to fit. This is similar to the auto-resizing of avatars that vBulletin 3.5 performed.

?Reason for Editing? Available on Quick Edit
You may now include a reason for editing without having to click through to the full editor.

Save Search Preferences with AJAX
Changing your search preferences on the advanced search page no longer requires a page reload.

Default Thread Sorting Option per Forum
You may now choose how threads will be sorted on a per forum basis. Options include the field and direction to sort using.

Rate Threads with AJAX
Rating a thread can be done without a page reload now. Rate a thread like you normally would, but when you submit the rating, you?ll get a notification that your rating was accepted (or if it wasn?t) and the new thread rating will instantly appear.

Uploadable Signature Image Support
Additionally, you may allow users to upload a single picture with their signature. If you combine this with limiting access to the tag, you can completely control the dimensions and file size of the images your users place in their signatures.

[B][SIZE=4]Pop Up List of Attachments in a Thread[/SIZE][/B]
The paperclip icon that denotes whether a thread contains attachments is now clickable. It will pop up a window that shows a list of all the attachments in the specified thread, including file size and number of views.

[SIZE=4][B]Receive Private Messages from Buddies Only[/B][/SIZE]
You may now select to receive private messages only from users on your buddy list. If a non-buddy tries to send you a message, they will receive an error saying that you do not accept private messages. Administrators and moderators are automatically able to bypass this restriction.

[SIZE=4][B]Give Reputation Using AJAX[/B][/SIZE]
Reputation can now be added to a post without leaving the page. When you click the reputation icon on a post, a box will appear and allow you to choose whether you approve or disapprove of the post and provide a reason.

[SIZE=4][B]Private Messages: Quota Warning[/B][/SIZE]
Once you have reached 90% of your private message quota, you will receive a warning telling you that you have almost reached your quota.

[SIZE=4][B]Full BCC Support in Private Messages[/B][/SIZE]
A number of you have discovered this by now. Like in an email, BCC (blind carbon-copy) allows you to hide the full list of recipients from each recipient. In previous versions of vBulletin, the ?to? field acted like a BCC field. Now, the ?to? field acts like the field in an email; each recipient will see all the names in the ?to? field.

[SIZE=4][B]Podcasting Support[/B][/SIZE]
[URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast"]Podcasting[/URL] is a means of distributing multimedia content via RSS feeds. vBulletin 3.6 includes support for podcasting attachment files via the built in RSS feed. This system is configurable on the per forum level.

[SIZE=4][B]Atomic Flood Checking[/B][/SIZE]
Flood checking for posting and emailing was rewritten to avoid the possibility of a race condition which allowed a small window where the check could be bypassed. The check is now fully atomic to ensure only one post or email per user can get through at a time.

[SIZE=4][B]Guest Posting[/B][/SIZE]
We're going to consider allowing guest posting in a limited group of forums.

[SIZE=4][B]Image Verification for Guest Posting[/B][/SIZE]
While guest posting can be very beneficial to getting people to post in a new community, it?s also just asking to be abused by spam bots. To combat this, you may now optionally require that guests use image verification while posting to ensure that they are actually human.

No feedback? :biggrin:

I really like the change to the PM system so that you can see who all got a PM. So many times I've gotten PMs that obviously was sent to ther along with me but couldn't tell who else was included.

The multi-quote function also kicks ass. That'll save me a lot of work.

After you get all caught with the rest of the stuff, could you restore the ability to see the reps you've given out? I keep trying to give you rep, but I need to know how many more reps to others I have to give out before I can rep you again. :biggrin:

I'm noticing much faster navigation overall around here...

I agree, showing all names on multi-recipient PMs is great!!!

Clarity, thank you so much for all your efforts, hardwork and time you have given this over the past week.... It is greatly appreciated!

I'd prefer to keep this feature. I get a lot of PMs from morons who are crying that I ding them and I love replying to them and cc'ing other people to the message so they can also laugh at the moron.

There have been a few "Tibor whining" PM's that have circled the Planet as well....

Outstanding work, credit to all involved.

Not only do we get the site (and home page) back, but it now has added features.

Life is good.

:oh::io:

Edit: Speed still seems to be improved overall over earlier vesion.

Edit: How is that multi-Quote feature meant to work? I clicked on the icon in a message as a test and then clicked the quote button and he same thing I would expect from a single quote comes up.

What should it look like?

Edit: Any more questions from me and I am risking a charge of impersonating TG05 :)

Yep, added that to the list.

That's good to hear. It should get faster still, as our MySQL installation is stock, and I'll adjust it based on Jelsoft's feedback after we've had a few days of full up-time for the sake of solid data. Thanks for the comments.

the "donation" section/link is gone (sorry, don't know computer lingo, don't know its' proper term.)

That specific mod (along with 9 others) didn't make the cut. I'll be replacing it with something a little more slim-line shortly.

As far as the rest of the missing mods, I doubt anyone will notice they're gone, which says enough.

TopXstats will be back.

Best place to check it out is the test forum. Grab a thread that has 5+ posts. Go in, and click the multi-quote button on, say, the top 2-3. Then click the normal quote button on something further down. You'll then get a Reply to Thread page up with everything in there waiting for you. It's how I made this response, and I'm already enjoying its functionality. In the past, I would quote one person, respond, submit -- then quote another, copy that quote, close the new reply, edit the first one, append, respond, submit, lather-rinse-repeat ad nauseam. Much nicer this way.

And hopefully the linkbacks are taking you directly to the appropriate post, not just past them the way the old mod was. It appears it's handling that properly, which is nice.

There are a lot of vB sites out there -- but I don't mind saying BP is vocal when it comes to finding mods it likes, and encouraging Jelsoft to roll them in as core features. Several of the new features have us in their roots.

I'm getting a slow but steady stream of MySQL errors. Not a lot, but enough that I need to track the issue down.

If anyone sees any database errors, or pages timeout, please post as much detail about the problem as you can here.

There may be none out there, this could just be me needing to apply our tweaks, but I do need info if you see something.

Hmm, Spell Check seems to be broken.

The Settled page of the vBookie isn't coming up via the drop-down menu, though the open bets page is in the clear. However, it lists as open bets that are for games which play today. Thus, they should list as "Closed" not "Open"

To add to what Sandgk says, I have two games which should be closed listed as open. Checked the vbookie settings on those two threads (OU game and Boston College game I believe) and both show a "close" time of 11:00am EST. It is now 2:25EST and they remain open. All other bets (College) appear to be in order (although I have not checked them each specifically)

Edit: 4 minutes later, College bets appear closed as they should be. I didn't do anything to force their closure, but they are now closed.
