Post 23 Season tOSU Coaching Changes

I'll speculate that if it is Bill O'Brien we definitely won't need the current QB coach (i.e. Cory Dennis) and he'll probably be gone.

As an executive:
As a coach:
  • Brown (1993) Tight ends coach
  • Brown (1994) Inside linebackers coach
  • Georgia Tech (1995–1997) Graduate assistant
  • Georgia Tech (1998–2000) Running backs coach
  • Georgia Tech (2001–2002) Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
  • Maryland (2003–2004) Running backs coach
  • Duke (2005–2006) Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
  • New England Patriots (2007) Offensive assistant
  • New England Patriots (2008) Wide receivers coach
  • New England Patriots (2009–2010) Quarterbacks coach
  • New England Patriots (2011) Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
  • Penn State (2012–2013) Head coach
  • Houston Texans (2014–2020) Head coach
  • Alabama (2021–2022) Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
  • New England Patriots (2023–present) Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
  • Houston Texans (2020) General manager

As far as BOB goes, I’m lukewarm. I can’t place exact games but my rough recollection is that he was at fault for some losses due to bad playcalling tendencies. I don’t know if that was Bama or Penn State or NFL days. Just my gut (open to being very wrong).

I’m also weary of anything from NE Patriots as most have been a disaster outside the Brady/Belichick umbrella - for a number of reasons (Brady skill, Belichick insane football knowledge, cheating?).

That said, I love the experience. An older mind is needed on the offensive side. I like that he has extensive knowledge in building a gameplan and calling a game based on a strategy and not whatever OSU has been doing (pick a random play out of a hat?).

I like that he’ll be an “eye in the sky” and the position coaches can worry about coaching their positions on the field. I like that he’ll have a lot of outside perspective - coaching under 2 of the best this sport has seen. Surely some of that rubs off across all players and coaches.

I’ll be interested in the film breakdown of his offense. I hope it fits modern college ball - RPO, mesh routes, tempo, spread the ball out, whatever every other creative offensive team is doing. Take advantage of the skill Day recruits.

If he wants to have a 2 year historic run and win some big games then bolt, then go for it. Day seems hell bent on getting the best in house and letting everything else fall in place.

He coordinated two really good bammer offenses and Bryce Young won the Heisman under his tutelage. Looking back at those two Bammer teams, I cannot pinpoint a game where you could really say the offense shit the bed. Maybe against UGA in that NC game, but that was a great UGA defense. QB play under him has been outstanding everywhere he's coached save for the Pats this year, but they were a dumpster fire personnel-wise, so I'm inclined to give him a pass on that one.

I like the hire. Experienced play caller with an excellent resume and frees Day up to be the CEO he should be. I'm more optimistic now than yesterday.

You’re right. And I think Jamo tore his knee against Bama too. They were hamstrung after that.

I guess I still want to learn how he matches with Will Howard’s big size, running and skill set. I see some Josh Allen in our new QB.
