Post 23 Season tOSU Coaching Changes

Birm mentioned today he no longer thinks it will be up to 5 coaches leaving on the offensive side. Seems like time will tell.
It was five overall, so only three on offense.

It would have been Eliano, Fleming, Dennis, Frye, Alford.

He said recent trends factor in; I assume this means Henderson and Judkins means Alford is safe, taking the possible total back down to four.

Speculation that it’s Bill O’Brien.

6th in PPG in 2021 and 4th in PPG in 2022 at Alabama. I don't get the hate about this potential hire. Say what you want about his Ped State background, but guy has shown he can be a good college OC. Wasn't my first choice either, but we could do much much worse.

I think the reaction is going to be very similar to the Bjork hire. Everyone is going to bitch and moan because *insert whatever—the Patriots offense sucked last year!* and then people will actually look at the reasons why the hire was made and most normal people will calm down.

From the 11W board:

BOB would be as good as it gets when it comes to what Day has been looking for. NFL experience, HC experience, play calling experience, coached under Saban and Belichick, smart offensive mind.

Do with him exactly what Bama did. Give him a place to shine for a few years (mentoring Hartline) and then mutually part ways when he gets his next HC gig.

O'Brien coming in isn't just some empty suite, Day has to be 100% giving up play calling. FINALLY. He's someone who's very experienced who can take everything over offensively and allow Day to focus on being a Head Coach and Head Coaching duties (plus not a bad guy for Hartline to learn from). It's not a flashy young up and comer higher, but it's a very solid one that makes a lot of sense considering the current situation.

Someone said this on the 247 board and it's so true

Hired by Nick Saban and Bill Belichick but not good enough for Ohio State

It’s not a matter of “good enough”. The guy worked for Saban, Belichick, and PSU. He’s the enemy.

I’m absolutely against this hire (unless he can average 43+ points a game, beat tcun, and win a Nati in which case he becomes “one of us”).
