That's what people said before the LSU game. And USC. And Texas. And USC. And yet OSU was right in the mix of the title talk. Even if OSU lost ot Oregon, if Pryor & co lit it up next fall, they'd be right in the mix again.Couldn't disagree more. With another bad loss OSU would have been permanently labeled(in media terms) as a pretender for the national championship, only wins in the Big Ten but can't compete nationally, etc.
Then why are recruits going to SC? They haven't been a NC contender for 4 years.I do think this negativity effects some recruits. After the Rose Bowl, anyone but an out and out OSU hater will at least have the Bucks in the Hunt for the NC game next year and probably the year after. If a top recruit wants to win a national championship, the strong finish in the second half of this year can only be a positive in forming a view as to the Bucks prospects.

OSU's actual place as championship contender and their projected place in the recruiting world are two seperate issues. With regard to recruiting, removing the opportunity to be negatively recruited by playing well and winning can only be positive in my eyes.
{quote= winslow}Winning sure is nice and more helpful, but losing isn't anywhere near as impactful as fans think it is.
You are probably right. But most fans have also been frustrated by the way we have been able to finish classes with the big national recruits. Whether it is negative recruiting or working from a humbled position after a NC loss, we just haven't been able to close. All i am implying with my posting is let this years cycle play out when we are dealing from a different hand and see if the results are different.
Wouldn't you think Urban Meyer leaving, then only for a year, then back next fall would have some fallout for kids given how worrisome that can be to not have your head coach? Well they've actually picked up momentum in recruiting since then.
