You can tell by some of Pantoni's tweets and some of the articles out there about this recruitment exactly what Urban's angle is.

The other guys (Sarkisian and Graham) are talking about winning championships and trying to sell him on that vision that they can get there. Meanwhile, Urban has quite obviously been there and done that. He has proven he can win it all (3 times even) while the other guys have not even come close.

Makes sense as a legitimate differentiating point for a kid who badly wants to win.

He also seems like a no nonsense type of kid who doesn't need to be flattered. That fits well with Urban's straight forward style.

Lots of good/valid points about Urban being the most likely coach to deliver Porter a NC. That single aspect has probably been hyped a little too much though. Every kid wants to win a NC and they don't all sign with us. Porter might want to more than others which would help our cause but that alone is only a part of the equation. I just don't think that will be the sole factor for him. Urban understands the LDS culture and I am sure he did an excellent job of selling the family on his ability to provide a good environment and leadership to Porter. The in-home pic with the larger number of family and friends is what sold me that Urb was getting it done. The last piece is Porter feeling comfortable on campus this weekend and feeling like he will fit in among the players and culture of the program. Don't forget, it's a long way from Utah to C-Bus. If Porter and his family feel he will fit in it's a done deal IMO. Anyone know who his hosts will be? I imagine he will spend a decent amount of time with Bosa?

I don't like tall LB's, and tall LB's do not project well in the NFL where the average height of all LB's is just under 6' 2".

However, there are exceptions to the rule. Porter is built a lot like Brian Urlacher, who measured 6' 4", 258 pounds at the NFL Combine and ran a 4.59 forty, did 27 bench reps @ 225 lbs, and had a 34" vertical. If Porter is that kind of freak athlete, then maybe he will succeed at linebacker.

Still, his future is probably at defensive end, where his height will be more of an advantage.

Just sign him and figure out his position later.

I don't think that's a good comparison. You're comparing a grown Urlacher who was in his 20s when he hit 258lbs. And that was for the combine, he played almost 20lbs less than that at new mexico. And at 18, Urlacher went to NM at barely 220 as a WR. Gustin will go to college already the size of almost all our LBs, I think he'll no doubt be a DE. Even if he keeps that athleticism, he'll still keep growing at 18. I could see him hitting any college campus close to 250. That would be an awesome advantage to have. Can you imagine the pass rushing possibilities with him, Boss, Hilliard and Holmes at DE? Yikes

Agreed. I suppose they could fight the weight he'll easily pack on to stay at 250, but he should be able to get to nearly 260 by his sophomore year. Wouldn't be surprised if he could get to the 270 range by the time he leaves here (or wherever he may be).
