Jury acquits former Montana CB of homicide charges

HELENA, Mont. -- A California jury has acquitted former Montana cornerback Jimmy Wilson of homicide charges for the June 2007 shooting death of his aunt's boyfriend.

Los Angeles Superior Court officials say Wilson was acquitted Thursday and freed from custody. He had been jailed on $2 million bail since his arrest on June 12, 2007.

Wilson was charged with shooting 29-year-old Kevin Smoot of Lancaster, Calif., on June 2, 2007. Court records say the shooting occurred during a confrontation at the home of Wilson's aunt.

Wilson's attorney, Jerome Bradford, argued that his client was acting in self defense.

Wilson started 14 games in 2006 for Montana.

Mississippi St. RB charged with DUI

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon was arrested over the weekend.

An arrest report from the Starkville Police Department says Dixon was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers found him intoxicated late Saturday night with two empty champagne bottles on the floorboard of his car.

Mississippi State spokesman Joe Galbraith says coach Dan Mullen is still trying to gather facts before deciding on disciplinary action and won't comment yet.

The 21-year-old from Terry was recently named preseason second-team All-Southeastern Conference and is the Bulldogs' best returning offensive player.

He rushed for 869 yards and seven touchdowns to bring his career totals to 2,603 yards and a Mississippi State record 30 touchdowns.

Michigan disciplines Cissoko after arrest http://myespn.go.com/profile/violation?ou=bigtenadmin&at=7&vid=1248528832988

Michigan cornerback Boubacar Cissoko faces a court date next month after being arrested in June for disorderly conduct.

Cissoko, a projected starter this fall, has a pretrial hearing Aug. 24. He could face up to a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail but likely won't serve time. Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez issued a statement Friday that Cissoko had been disciplined by the program.
"He is taking care of his responsibilities," the statement reads.
According to the arrest report, Cissoko was a passenger in a car pulled over for speeding and started yelling at a police officer after the officer asked the driver to get out of the car.

After a three- or four-minute pursuit, the driver was asked out of the car and hand-cuffed. Cissoko then began yelling ?Leave my boy the (expletive) alone,? the report said, and was arrested when he failed to comply with an officer's orders to stop.

Bit different story if there was a several minute pursuit, as opposed to a mere speeding violation. By the way, Ballin--nice Boondock Saints reference.

Charged dropped against FSU WR

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A prosecutor has dropped a felony charge against a Florida State football player who was accused of hurling a chair at a woman during a brawl in the school's student union.

Wide receiver Richard Goodman had been charged with aggravated battery. He was charged six months after the fight when another fight participant accused him of throwing the chair and seriously injuring a female student.

Assistant State Attorney Jon Fuchs filed a court document Thursday saying witnesses named at least four other people as the chair-thrower. Fuchs says no one identified Goodman.

Goodman was among five players suspended for a game last season for the fight with members of a fraternity. Goodman was suspended from the team after his May arrest until the charge was resolved.

WVU receiver Sanders reinstated

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia football coach Bill Stewart has given top returning wide receiver Jock Sanders another chance.

Sanders has been reinstated to the team and practiced with the Mountaineers on Saturday, six months after his arrest on drunken driving charges in Morgantown.

"It's the right thing to do," Stewart said in brief remarks about Sanders after practice. "It needed to be done to get this behind him."

Sanders was the team's leading receiver last season with 53 catches for 462 yards and seven touchdowns. His actions off the field will be monitored closely and Stewart hasn't decided yet on whether the junior will miss any playing time during the upcoming season.

"He's on a very short leash," Stewart said.
