WVU's Stuart arrested in stolen property case

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia football player Courtney Stuart has been arrested on charges related to a stolen property case in Arizona.

Court records show Stuart was arrested Monday in West Virginia and is being held in jail there.

Stuart's attorney, Corwin Townsend of Phoenix, said Stuart was indicted last month in Arizona on charges of burglary and trafficking in stolen property. Townsend said the arrest and indictment were a surprise.

He says Stuart is accused of taking CDs and a laptop at a party three years ago in the Phoenix area, where the junior is from.
Stuart has waived extradition to fight the charges.

A spokesman says West Virginia coach Bill Stewart is still gathering the facts. Stuart primarily plays on special teams and hasn't seen action in the team's last four games.

Suh disciplined for reckless driving

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh has been disciplined by the team after being ticketed for negligent driving for ramming three parked cars with his sport utility vehicle over the weekend.

Suh, a fifth-year senior and one of the team leaders, told police he swerved to avoid hitting a dog or cat crossing the street when his 2003 Land Rover hit the first of three cars on a Lincoln street. Police said Suh had alcohol in his system, but he tested well below the legal limit.

Coach Bo Pelini said Tuesday that he would not make public the nature of Suh's punishment. Pelini, who has a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol-related offenses, said Suh was not drunk and that the crash was an accident.

Suh, a leading contender for the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award as the nation's top lineman, hit the cars as he was driving home at 2:20 a.m. Sunday. Police suspected the 22-year-old Suh had been drinking, and a breathalyzer test showed Suh's blood-alcohol content was 0.035, well below the legal limit of .08, according to the accident report.

After a rash of off-field incidents in March 2008, Pelini said he would not tolerate alcohol incidents. The coach said Suh didn't cross the line and was simply on his way home after falling asleep at a friend's residence.

"The zero tolerance is for drunkenness, that type of thing," Pelini said. "He was far from drunk. I know exactly where he was and what he did that night. This doesn't fall into that category. I deal with those situations on a case-by-case situation. If someone's drunk and gets into trouble, they're going to have an issue. That wasn't the case."

However, Suh put himself in a bad position by being out past 2 a.m., Pelini said. "What I told him was that I understand why he was up that late ... but any time you're up at that hour, you leave yourself (open) for things to happen."

Minnesota DB Carter arrested but will play vs. Illinois

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota defensive back Michael Carter will be allowed to play against Illinois despite his arrest this week outside a campus pizza parlor.

Minnesota coach Tim Brewster said Tuesday that the matter is being handled internally and that the freshman will play against Illinois.

Carter was arrested early Monday and charged with obstructing the legal process and underage consumption. Police say Carter and a teammate were trying to pick a fight.

Police say Carter resisted officers' attempts to pat him down despite being told by several teammates to cooperate. No other players were charged.
Carter has a hearing scheduled for Nov. 19.

FRIENDS: Our new football coach Lane Kiffin has been named dropped by none other than Mr. Lil Wayne, whose mixtape "No Ceilings" has leaked before its October 31st release date. In the mixtape, Mr. Wayne remarks, "smoke weed, talk shit like Lane Kiffin." Please note: the mention of illegal activities and the flagrant use of language in the above quoted material does not necessarily reflect the attitudes of this blogger. However, one fact can be--no, MUST be--gleaned from this incident: Lane Kiffin is totally cool. If we, as a nation, hadn't known that before, we certainly know it now. Kudos to you, Lane Kiffin.

Mr. Kiffin's tweet on the matter: "looking forward to another great practice today and a huge game saturday...also a huge shout-out to Lil Wayne for boosting our street cred!"

Street cred, indeed.
