Police/Legal Blotter (stop breaking the law, asshole!)

:slappy: What an idiot. What a mook. What an ultra-maroon.

Florida State cornerback and kick returner Greg Reid was arrested early Monday on

misdemeanor charges after authorities said he "purposely misled" police to protect a friend.

Reid was charged with resisting arrest without violence and perjury not in an official proceeding.

He was arrested at 2:30 a.m., booked at the Leon County Jail and later released on $1,000 bail.

According to Tallahassee police, the friend, Rontrel Frazier, was riding Reid's scooter and sought

by authorities on a traffic violation. When police attempted to stop Frazier, he attempted to fight

officers and eventually fled, police said. Officers traced the scooter to Reid, and police said Reid

made statements that were proven to be false based on his cellphone records.

Also, while being taken to jail, Reid asked whether the officer with him "had family" and

mentioned "payback," according to the arrest report.

Fighting officers over a traffic violation on a scooter? Check. Perjury over the violation? Check. Not just running away when you're Greg Reid? Check.
Well, Reid was not the one on the scooter or the one fighting. The perjury charge looks to me like one of those "mad cops filing bullshit" charges to me. I bet he walks. Whether Jimbo will launch him is another thing. He'd just gotten off suspension for violating team rules. <cough..failed drug test ....cough>

Reid is one of the best corners in the country. No way Jimbo lets him go.

He threatened the officer's family? This guy has trouble written all over him. I don't think this is the last we've seen of him in handcuffs.
Yeah, the perjury thing looks bogus, but the threatening a law enforcement officer's family looks like a good separate charge.

Charges against Reid have been dropped.

CBS

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped resisting arrest and perjury charges against Florida State cornerback and return specialist Greg Reid.

State Attorney Willie Meggs said he decided not to pursue the case because Tallahassee police didn't really need information Reid had been accused of falsifying when they arrested him at 2:30 a.m. Monday.

"Our position is that he should never have been arrested," said Tim Jansen, Reid's lawyer. "He's not happy that he went through this. He still believes he did nothing wrong."

Florida State is off this Saturday, but coach Jimbo Fisher said Reid will play in the Seminoles' next game on Oct. 8 at Wake Forest.

"I'm very relieved," said Fisher, who had not previously commented on the arrest. "Like I said, you never make a statement until you find out all the facts."

Reid, 21, had been charged with lying to protect a friend from his hometown of Valdosta, Ga. Police stopped Rontel Frazier while he was driving Reid's motor scooter because it didn't have a license plate.

Frazier also didn't have a driver's license, and he escaped from the officers before they could identify him. Officers later contacted Reid and he met them at the scene.

"While it was clear that several acquaintances of Reid had access to his scooter, Reid was less than forthcoming as to who was operating his scooter that night," Meggs said. "In other words, he didn't want to dime out his friend."

Citizens aren't required to answer police questions, but if they do so they "must provide truthful and complete answers," Meggs said. He said Reid's responses fell short of that requirement, so police had probable cause to arrest him.

Any information Reid could have provided at that point, though, would have been superfluous, Meggs acknowledged.

"The truth of the matter is the officers had basically figured out who it was," he said.

OU LB Londell Taylor charged with DUI

Oklahoma linebacker Londell Taylor is yet to make his way onto the football field for the Sooners this season, and odds are he won't be seeing any action in the near future either. That's what happens when you're arrested on charges of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, as Taylor was on Saturday in Norman.

According to the Tulsa World, Taylor was arrested about an hour after Oklahoma's win against Missouri on Saturday night. Taylor was involved in a car accident just east of Oklahoma's campus and left the scene before being apprehended by the police.

The arrest report says that Taylor admitted to the arresting officers that he'd been drinking and struggled with the sobriety tests before blowing a 0.14 on a breathalyzer test. Taylor was then arrested and released after posting $1,000 bond and he has a court date set for October 11th.

Oklahoma is yet to release a statement on Taylor's arrest.
