Tulsa's Damaris Johnson charged with embezzlement

Tulsa's Damaris Johnson was poised to become one of 2011's best stories. But it now appears he'll become one of its most cautionary tales.

Tulsa law enforcement issued a warrant for Johnson's arrest Wednesday, according to the Tulsa World. He will be charged with felony embezzlement following an incident in which Johnson's girlfriend Chamon Jones, a department store cashier, allegedly sold Johnson more than $2,600 worth of clothing for a fraction of its true cost.

Jones was arrested August 26 and Johnson suspended indefinitely by the Golden Hurricane shortly thereafter. As of early Wednesday evening, Johnson had not yet been arrested.

Already in the NCAA record books as the NCAA's all-time leader in both all-purpose yardage and kick return yardage, Johnson was set to put both marks virtually out of reach during his senior season. By padding both numbers and leading Tulsa into a Conference USA title chase, Johnson likely would have become the nationwide star his eye-popping numbers suggest he ought to have been already.

Wisconsin dismisses DL Irwin from team after arrest

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin has dismissed defensive lineman Jake Irwin from the team after he was arrested in connection with an incident outside a campus gym last week.

UW Madison police say Irwin was arrested for two counts of disorderly conduct and two counts of battery for his role in an altercation that took place in the early morning hours of Sept. 1. Police say Irwin was struck in the head with a rock and needed treatment for his injuries. Another man also was arrested.

The redshirt freshman was not involved in the fall practices. Coach Bret Bielema says Irwin had been serving a suspension, then was dismissed after "an incident that occurred late last week."

See ya.

UW has brought in Pitt tight end Brock DeCicco to fill the spot.

Gator Linebacker Finley arrested. Complete with "don't tase me, bro" moment.

Orlando Sentinel

Finley was pulled over at 1:50 p.m. by Officer William Sasser after driving around a barricade at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. According to the arrest report, Finley initially refused to give his license and registration and told Sasser he was late.

As Finley tried to leave, Sasser told him he was under arrest and grabbed Finley's wrist. Finley pulled his wrist away and "stood up and squared to me while straddling the scooter," Sasser wrote in the report.

After Sasser removed his Taser, Finley complied.

I'd share the espn and si links, but they aren't reporting it yet.

"stood up and squared to me while straddling the scooter,"
:slappy: If that mental picture wasn't so funny I'd be real sad.

But really?? Arresting a football player on a scooter for going around a barrier at the stadium??? You should always stop and answer any law enforcement officer. Stupid not to. But I can also imagine his "You've got to be kidding me??? " mindset if it was some Barney Fife UPD officer stopping a player coming or going to practice.

Then again, it might be a pampered ass of an athlete with little use for the common courtesy of letting the officer have the information he needed to do his job.

What I do know is that Muschamp will be very, very unhappy that this happened on Tennessee week.

Obviously he's not a critical player if he's riding a scooter. The better players be pimpin' in a Benz.

OK. The idiot was driving with a suspended license....four charges for driving with a suspended license in less than three years.

Charged with third degree felony assault for pulling his wrist away from the cop.

Kyle laughed when I said we had a horrible relationship with the UPD. This is just another in a long line of conflicts. They say we (UF athletes) are spoiled, arrogant and dismissive of law enforcement. UF athletes say they are chicken shits with Napoleon complexes that live to cite an athlete with anything they can - to show them they are not so special and take them down a peg.

I have an idea that both sides have merit.
