OhioU players rush bar staff, Boo Jackson hospitalized
ATHENS, Ohio ? Athens police were called to a campus-area bar on Friday to break up a fight between members of the Ohio University football team and bar staff.
In a news release issued by the Athens Police Department on Sunday, Lt. Randy Gray said several team members were involved in an altercation at the Courtside Bar, located at 85 N. Court St., including senior quarterback Franshaw "Boo" Jackson.
When officers arrived they found Jackson unconscious with a "small amount of blood in his mouth from an apparent injury to his lip."
Police said it appeared the fight started when several members of the football team attempted to "rush the south door of the bar in an effort to gain entrance for one or more people who were either underage or had no identification."
When bar staff attempted to block the group from coming in, the fight started.
Coach Frank Solich was called to the scene to help collect and calm team members, Gray said.
Officers were not able to determine who threw the first punch so no charges were filed, police said.
Jackson was transferred to a Columbus hospital because there was concern that he may have a facial fracture and a concussion, police said.
