Police/Legal Blotter (stop breaking the law, asshole!)

And a flashback to 05:
The Official EDSBS Greatest Story Ever Told: Ben Siegert, defensive tackle for the Oregon State Beavers, got drunk, stole a sheep being used in a study on homosexual behavior in animals, and was caught driving around Corvallis with it by police. He blew a .14, claimed it was part of a prank, and said 'I'm from the city, I don't know anything about sheep"

Iowa's Clayborn to plead guilty in cabbie punch

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn is expected to plead guilty in an alleged assault case involving a taxi driver.

The 21-year-old from St. Louis was charged with assault causing bodily injury after he allegedly punched the driver on Jan. 19, 2009, when the cabbie honked at him. Police say Clayborn got out of his car, walked back to the taxi and hit the man.

Online court records filed Wednesday show Clayborn plans to enter a guilty plea on March 19. The records don't indicate if he'll plead guilty to a lesser charge.

It's funny how Ferentz seems to get a pass on these incidents. Someone put something together a couple of years ago documenting Iowa players and their run ins with the law under Ferentz.

Ohio State's beating at the hands of the press is well documented. It looks like it's Florida's turn and, depending on the outcome of today, USC will get piled on eventually.

I wonder why Ferentz seems to have a, pun intended, "get out of jail free" card.

UO?s James freed without bail | The football player will return to court next month and will wear an electronic surveillance bracelet

A 38-hour jail stay for University of Oregon running back LaMichael James ended Thursday afternoon when the Texas native finalized details of a court-approved release agreement that allowed him to be freed without posting bail.
James, 20, had been behind bars at the Lane County Jail since about 3 a.m. Wednesday, when Springfield police transported him there following his arrest on domestic violence charges. He pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor allegations during a court appearance Wednesday.
Court officials approved James? conditional jail release Wednesday afternoon, but it took another full day before it was determined where he would live until he returns to court next month. In the meantime, he is not allowed to stay at his Springfield apartment, jail Lt. Larry Brown said.
?He was able to find a third party to stay with,? Brown said. He did not identify that person or disclose other requirements of James? release agreement.
James will wear an electronic surveillance bracelet around his ankle to allow police monitoring of his whereabouts.

If we've learned nothing from Oregon football this year, its that if you put a "La" in front of your kid's name, he should go into MMA, not football.

There have also been players who violated what Meyer calls "our core values" and were tossed for good.
"What are our core values?" Meyer says. "Missing class? No. You miss class, we're going to get you. Stay out late, get in a fight, those are bad things, but we fix those; they're called mistakes. But core value Number 1 at Florida is honesty. Don't you lie to me. People tell fibs, and when I get you? I've had to dismiss a guy. Number 2 is: Treat women with respect. If you touch a female, I don't want to hear she hit you first.

"Gary Brown has had a history during his time here of not meeting a set of expectations we have for the student-athletes in our football program and therefore he is no longer a part of our program," UF spokesman Steve McClain said. 2/19/2010

Two UTEP players plead guilty to robbery charges

EL PASO, Texas -- A pair of suspended Texas-El Paso football players accused of robbery say they are guilty.

Daniel Palmer and Nickolas Sampson, both 20, pleaded guilty Friday to charges that last summer they robbed Rafael Aguilera, who was trying to sell the men stereo equipment.

An El Paso District Attorney's office spokeswoman says the men will serve five years' probation under a deal that defers a criminal conviction. Spokeswoman Renee Railey says that if they don't violate their terms, a judge could seal their cases and dismiss their guilty pleas.

Palmer and Sampson have been suspended from the UTEP football team since their arrests last June.
