Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the first amendment applies here. The federal government didn't charge him or make him shut up over his rant. I'm sure there's at least one UO conduct rule violated in there somewhere. I wonder how he was doing in his English classes.

I would assume fairly poorly. But serves him right, racist asshole. He's blown every opportunity that he's had. Good luck finding success in life being a loud mouthed racist with a terrible attitude and work ethic.

I doubt he's actually a racist. Just a kid who has trouble thinking through his decisions beforehand. IMO, it was very poor of Chip Kelly to kick this kid off the team, even with past issues, when you are keeping kids in legitimate trouble with the law on the team.

Is his pride that large that a kid criticizing him on Facebook deserves a larger reaction than one who gets arrested?

I believe it was stated somewhere this kid was only a part time ST player, where those who actually got arrested were big contributors to the team.

Oregon suspends Alonso for 2010

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon coach Chip Kelly has suspended linebacker Kiko Alonso for the 2010 football season.

Alonso was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants -- the fourth Ducks player to be arrested in the past month.
Alonso played in 12 games as a redshirt freshman last season. The school said Monday he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after the 2010 season.

Alonso's arrest indirectly led to the dismissal of receiver Jamere Holland. In a Facebook post, Holland mistakenly concluded Alonso had been kicked off the team and blasted the move.

Kelly quickly dropped Holland from the team, citing a violation of team rules.

Yeah if you really want to reach I guess. Lack of ability to help the coach on the field would be my cynical take on the biggest part of it.

As a white guy myself I can honestly say I'd have been ok with Jim Brown as my teammate back in the day with the full understanding he probably didn't like my kind all that much. I'll also go out further on the limb and say Mr. I hate white people back up scrub would have been strangely ok with Tebow as his QB if he brought the same level of winning to Oregon.

Talent level of the fucker you don't like is a key element of the team chemistry equation on any sports team I've ever been on or around.
