Pittsburgh Steelers (official thread)

WOW! Santonio Holmes a 65 yard return for a TOUCHDOWN after a fumble on the return! Forgot to mention that 4th down had to be replayed due to illegal procedure on Carolina! So Santonio redeemed himself on the fumble & hit paydirt with that 65 yard return!!!

That kid (can't remember his name) that got the interception and showboated like he did should have had his head knocked off!!! :tic: absolutely classless.....:shake:

Anthony Smith! He was told immediately by LeBeau & Cowher so it's a lesson learned! I've seen equally bad by other teams as well, but could do without that!

Cowher says don't read into indecision

ALAN ROBINSON

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH - Bill Cowher sent this message Tuesday to those convinced he has decided not to return as the Pittsburgh Steelers' coach next season: Not so fast.
Cowher cautioned he hasn't made up his mind whether to retire after this season, despite being unsigned past the 2007 season. He also insisted he hasn't dealt with any post-Super Bowl burnout and, at age 49, has not lost his desire to coach or deal with NFL players.

Steelers making another December rush

ALAN ROBINSON

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Steelers are peaking in December again, a great trait for a team accustomed to playing deep into January.
The problem is this season may be over by New Year's Day, because it took the Steelers more than two months to begin to resemble the team that won its final eight games on the way to a championship last season.
So, if games against AFC North rivals Baltimore and Cincinnati the next two weeks are Pittsburgh's equivalent of the postseason, the Steelers (7-7) want to perform like they did a season ago.

Steelers didn't throw in towel
BY KEVIN KELLY | [email protected]
The season was eight games old and on the brink when a group of Steelers players stood up and spoke out.
Wide receiver Hines Ward was among the team leaders who took a turn the morning of Nov. 12 and addressed the 2-6 start to this season by the defending Super Bowl champions.
"It was really just a gut check from everybody," said Ward, a four-time Pro Bowl selection and the MVP of Super Bowl XL. "Hearing it from your peers and your teammates, how they perceived how the year was going, really put things in perspective."

As we watch today's game in which the Steelers face the Bengals these two articles surface:

Steelers Expect Cowher to Quit

and

The money question: It's not everything, but it is something

Common themes in both articles? Cowher was reportedly offered between $6 and $6.5 million, at which he balked. He felt that he deserved payment more in line with the earnings of the fella who coached the team he helped beat in the XL Super Bowl, Mike Holgren. Reportedly, the moustachioed and paunchy Holgren rakes in anywhere from $8 to $10 million per year.

Cowher to mull over decision

By C. Trent Rosecrans
Post staff reporter

Following Sunday's victory over the Bengals, Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter demanded an answer from his coach.
Steelers coach Bill Cowher has said he'd announce whether he'd return for his 16th season sometime this week. Even following an emotional 23-17 overtime win by his Steelers and the confrontation by his defensive stalwart, Cowher held firm and told his players the same thing he told the media after the game.

So we have the 15th overall pick. Our biggest needs imo are OL and LB. No one really jumps out at me from those 2 positions that should be drafted that high.

Have to see what FA look like, what JR's declare, how the combine goes and maybe who the new coach is but at this point I wouldn't mind trading down and grabbing David Harris from scUM in the late 1st.
