Pittsburgh Steelers (official thread)

Steelers' Mike Tomlin expects offseason extension

Mike Tomlin isn't going anywhere.

Days after walking out of a postgame news conference during a question about his future, the Pittsburgh Steelers coach said that his fire for the job has "intensified" and that he expects to get a contract extension this offseason.

"I expect to be back, and I would imagine that those contract things are going to run their course," Tomlin said at his end-of-season news conference Thursday. "Art [Rooney II] and I have a really good, transparent relationship. We communicate continually often. I don't imagine it's going to be an issue, and I imagine it's going to get done in a timely manner at the appropriate time, but my mindset is to coach his football team."

Rooney later told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the team does "plan to extend Mike's contract."

On this day in sports history 50 years ago........

Many experts consider the 1974 Pittsburgh Steelers to have had the best draft class in NFL history as they selected four players later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth, and Mike Webster). A fifth player, Donnie Shell, was signed by Pittsburgh after going unselected in the 1974 NFL Draft; he too was later enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

Back then there was 17 rounds (or 442 picks) and Donnie Shell was signed as an undrafted free agent.

They must hate offensive football.

Eh, he coordinated some pretty damn good offenses for Vrabel in Tennessee including the 2020 season where they averaged 30+ ppg. Lousy head coach, but was a capable OC. I'd say QB is a more pressing issue.

Yeah but he was famous in Atlanta for drafting offensive weapons and then not using them... I would say he's just a fan of running the ball but that doesn't explain Bijan

The guy who tried to trip a kickoff returner? Yeah.....something tells me Tomlin is OK as long as things lead to a W.
True that Ws trump everything else, but I’m telling you that guy is not good for a team’s culture. He is an aloof and entitled self promoter. I don’t think his own teammates could stand him, and the the Seahawks and Broncos both got rid of him for good reason. I especially don’t see the Steelers and Tomlin as even close to a good fit.
