Pittsburgh Penguins (Official Thread)

I don't think anyone is optimistic. I'm just hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

This team isn't going to win the Cup, but it would be nice to get out of the first round after leading 3-1.

It would be amazing for a team full of grinders to beat a team as talented as Tampa Bay. I'm amazed we were up 3-1.

It'll be tough for Tampa to beat this team three times in a row, but with the way the Pens have played the last couple games.. maybe not.

I'm off to Bdubs to watch, since the game is on NHL Network. GO PENS!

14 goals in 7 games
0-for-25 on the power play at home
5 goals scored in 4 losses

Obviously, goaltending cost the Pens this series. :roll1::lol:

A 1-0 loss in game seven was a fitting conclusion, unfortunately. You can't win if you can't score. :ohwell:

Also a fitting conclusion that the series ended with Pens getting shut out while on the power play. Special teams was the story of this series no doubt. Never thought TB would win three straight.

You shouldn't lose 1-0 at home in a game 7. The Pens actually had some good chances and dominated the play for long stretches. The team has no playmakers, only grinders and maybe two shooters.

Next year.. Crosby and Malkin will both have legitimate wingers.

Pittsburgh is gonna be tough to beat next year so long as everyone stays healthy....

Neal-Crosby-Jagr

Ahhh one can hope hu? I still think Jagr can roll 20G-50A-70P

Personally I think we got to do something with one of our centers... Staal being my nomine as a player to trade. Put that 4 Mil toward another good winger to make Sidney really blossom.

Odd timing, he's been working out twice a day since the beginning of the week. He was cleared for off-ice workouts early this month. It looks like he's progressing just fine.

Don't think the Pens medical staff would've cleared him if there was any pessimism. No need to rush him right now, so..

EDIT: The Pens also low-balled the shit out of Jagr from what I've read. If it were that important, you'd think they'd make sure he was coming to Pittsburgh.

Oooooooooooh shit. He can still play.. would be a fantastic option for Sid or Geno...

You sound like many Pens fans who party like it's 1999 when Jagr is mentioned. He scored a whopping 50 points in the vaunted Kontinental League last season.
I'm in the minority who wanted to add someone to the roster who wasn't turning 40. Seeing him ultimately sign with the Flyers was the icing on the cake - they can overpay for him.

Max Talbot signing with Philly was far more disappointing.

At $2.0mil, Jaromir Jagr's talent and size would have been valuable assets. 15-20 goals, 25-30 assists. If he clicked with one of the centers, possibly more. Detroit was probably the best fit for Jagr, though. He would have worked well with Filppula. Although I take umbrage to how he handled the situation, for he did not ask Ray Shero if the terms of the contract were negotiable, I, begrudgingly, wish him the best. He's not perfidious by any means. He's just unprofessional.

As for Talbot, he needed the cash and Paul Holmgren is crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if Max was traded to Montreal or out West by this time next year to free up cap space for a John Tavares offer sheet. Good for #25.
