Pitt +16.5 at Notre Dame (ov/un 45.5) Sat 3:30 NBC

Just got back from the game...oy, I know the team has play poorly at home all season, but that one had to be the worst. They completely dominated almost all the stats except the turnover margin, and that one nearly killed them. The team and the stadium were completely flat from the get go. It's like they expected Pitt to just roll over despite Pitt playing them close year in and year out.

It wasn't until those final minutes of the 4th when the stadium finally came alive, and Pitt looked rattled the rest of the game. They jumped the count in overtime, didn't execute plays, couldn't kick. Notre Dame shouldn't have won that game. Any other year this would have been the kind of game where the team would give up and fall on their sword. Credit Pitt for showing up and wanting to play, they wanted it more and did a good job with our front seven. While there was a bout of the flu going around all week, they pretty much neutralized Te'o most of the game with their blocking schemes and did a great job with our defensive line most of the game.

Just glad theres only one more home game left this season against Wake Forest. If the Irish put forth this kind of effort, the Deacons could have a chance. Next week is Boston College as well, which is the team that tradionally upsets the Irish in undefeated seasons since '93. USC has no form of defense that I've seen in the last two weeks, but they still have an awesome receiving duo and will be impossible to shut down. I expect the Irish to still drop at least 1 game in November.

From ESPN:
All five Notre Dame home games this season have been decided by a touchdown or less, while the four games away from Notre Dame have been decided by an average margin of 28 points.

Even Notre Dame's team hates their fans.

This is probably true. There was the big push for fans at the beginning of the season to "StaND Up." They even displayed the movement that way, it was cheesy. Theres been a problem in that stadium for some time though. Theres a lot of older alumni and fans that come to games just to sit and watch the team, very little cheering done. The student section is very much into it all game, the rest of the stadium can be silent at times. There have been some big games when the team has been in the thick of things, and the stadium is just dead. The stadium WAS dead for 3 1/2 quarters yesterday. Yeah, it was a bit cold and everyone expected to beat Pitt handidly, but Pitt certainly didn't see it that way.

The other issue is gameday focus on campus. Theres a lot of hoopla and pregame rituals that the team does at home on gameday and on Fridays that they don't do at away games. For one theres the Pep Rally, which they've already said they're going to move back a few hours to get the team to the hotel earlier. On game weekends the players would give tours of the athletic complex too, I guess thats getting cut out. There were some other specifics too, but just a lack of focus and not enough time to relax on gameday at home.

ND is going to fall backasswards into the NC game, and some BPers will be happy about it.

Give it time.

I'm the furthest thing from a ND fan, but just about every undefeated team has near missteps, doesn't it? Granted, Pitt's a horrible team, but Purdue this year isn't much better. And I don't even need to get into OSU in '02. God knows there was no shortage of people claiming OSU fell backasswards into that NC game, and look what happened. If ND does get to the game, I'll be cheering for them to get their doors blown off (and I'm sure it'll happen). But I think it's a bit hypocritical for BPers to claim ND shouldn't get a shot based on an admittedly bad game against a horrible opponent.

The difference is that in 2002, there was no other undefeated teams (see: KSU and Oregon in 2012). If you mean ND going IF KSU and Oregon both lose, then I would agree.

Please. I have heard excuses for teams not playing well at home but this is really a stretch IMO

For me, it all depends on who they've beaten and how they've looked in those games. Based on that metric, right now it's really close among Bama, KSU and ND. Oregon's not beaten anyone this year outside of #19 USC. Of course, they have games remaining against #14 Stanford, #11 Oregon St., and the Pac-12 title game, so that all could change. But I won't ever feel back for a coach getting left out when he's scheduled trash for a non-conference schedule (looking at you, Chip Kelly).

What's the penalty for playing two guys with the same number? Guy here at work was saying 5 yards plus automatic first down. At the very least, Pitt should have had another shot at the field goal.

Man, Chris Brown is so fast you can see him twice in this photo :wink2:

That was some great Big East officiating that night. It's like both teams were leaving the conference and they didn't care who won...oh wait...

I gotta say that the officiating was pretty bad across the board. Yeah, there were a lot of ticky tacky calls early in the game, but there was also blatant holding on at least one of the two big runs by Graham that sprung him for the TD. It went both ways, but it was shoddy work. Either way, this was a big goof by the special teams coach, it's amazing nobody on the field picked it up.

Notre Dame?

[censored] those [censored]in' [censored]s. :tongue2:

Seriously I do hate them though.
I hate them worse than you do. Words do not exist in the English language that are strong enough to describe the level of hatred that I have for them. I bet that compared to me, you like them.
