Pirates tidbits (2011)

I'm pretty sure the Pirates have the worst record in interleague play - not exactly a stretch to just make a guess here - so beating the shit out of the Tigers 10-1 is worth a post.

Indians fans probably don't mind that result.

Pirates clinch series, winning game two versus Detroit, 6-2. Trying for the sweep tomorrow.

You're welcome, Tribe fans. :pirate1:

Kevin Correia (7-4) limited Chicago to four singles and a pair of walks in 7 1-3 innings. He moved into a tie with Boston's Jon Lester for the major league lead in wins, and has six of the Pirates' 14 victories away from PNC Park this season.

Again, the Bucs only won 17 road games all last season.

Take a picture. :pirate2:

By taking 2 of 3 in New York, the Pirates have already won as many road games this year as they did all of last season. They have won more road series this year than they did in 2009 and 2010...COMBINED.

That is both encouraging and pathetic at the same time, but it's improvement. Whether they can sustain it remains to be seen, but it shows how much better a team can be when they get some consistent, decent pitching. :pirate2:

I'm going to a couple weekend games in August this year, I've never been to PNC Park or Pittsburg. Does anyone know anything I should do/shouldn't miss? (Resturants/Attractions)?

A MUST have when in Pittsburgh.

So much so that they have a stand in PNC Park.

Eh, next time you're in Pittsburgh, drop by Peppi's in the Strip District instead.

If you've never had a Primanti's sandwich before DO NOT order your first one inside of PNC Park (or Heinz Field or CEC for that matter) - you will be severely underwhelmed. If I'm in Pittsburgh for the weekend, I'm hitting the following places to eat: Primanti's (in the strip district), Peppi's (on the North shore), Fathead's (on the south side), Vincent's Pizza Park (in Forest Hills - do not confuse with Vincent's of Greentree which has/used to have a place at PNC-although I've heard it's went downhill in recent years), Burgatory (Fox Chapel Waterworks - little bit of a drive).

For attractions, I'd ride the incline up to Mt. Washington for a great view of the city; visit the strip district on a Saturday morning and if you have time take a ride on the Gateway Clipper at night.
