Pirates tidbits (2011)

The chant can be attributed to the Olympic "dream team" jacket he's wearing and the "left field loonies" - a name given to the regular bleacher dwellers out in the all-you-can-eat (and no doubt drink) seats. It was Saturday night, too, so I'm sure the tailgating was in full swing early and often, although I don't usually see people getting tased.

The jorts? Sadly, they are not uncommon. My brother loves them. :shake:

After winning a couple of road series to start 4-2 the Pirates came home and reality joined them. After a 1-5 home stand - including a 22 inning scoreless drought - the Bucs head to Cincinnati for 3 games with a 5-7 record.

They'll be lucky to win 1 game this weekend. Same old Buccos. :pirate2:

The Bucs already have more complete games - 2 - than they had all of last season. They're now 7-3 on the road after taking 3 of 4 in Cincinnati.

Who the hell are these guys, and how long before the real Pirates show up?

It's the first time the Pirates have EVER shut out the Rockies. It only took 17 years. :pirate2:

Bucs win 2 of 3 in Colorado improving their road record to 9-7 as of May 1st. They need to win 9 more road games the rest of the season to surpass last year's total of 17 road wins.

My Indy Indians are getting some air-time against the Durham Bulls this early afternoon.

edit- Holy balls! They introduce the lineup and Andy's hitting .164. Ouch.

In other news, batting right behind him at 8th in the order...

The Bucs just completed a road trip by winning 2 of 3 in San Diego. That gives them 5 road series wins, so far. They only won 4 road series ALL last season.

Hell, they're tied for the league lead in road victories. They can't win at home, but still.

Holy shit the Pirates won a series at home, taking 2 of 3 from the Astros. In doing so, they have a .500 record (17-17) on Mother's Day for the first time since 2002.

Holy cow, a positive article about the Pirates from the national media. This is rare, indeed. That is, rare that anyone would have a reason to write something positive about them.

Third base umpire Mike DiMuro agreed, ruling it an out even though replays appeared to show otherwise, all the spark the surging Pirates needed to move above .500 in mid-May for the first time in seven years.
Can we just end the season now? :pirate1:

Should've called it a season at 18-17, but a trip to Cincinnati put an end to the all-too-predictable 6 game losing streak. Bucs are 5-1 at Cincinnati so far.

I'm pretty sure the Pirates have the worst record in interleague play - not exactly a stretch to just make a guess here - so beating the shit out of the Tigers 10-1 is worth a post.

Indians fans probably don't mind that result.
