PG/SG Amedeo Della Valle (AX Armani Exchange Milano - Italy)

Another full game on youtube. Findlay Prep sure knows how to get their players noticed. They even have their own "TV series" on youtube.

wbb3, if levert or another shooting guard commits to scum, then i'll concede to your perspective. however, considering that levert announced his departure after m*ch*gan "cooled" on adv, i expect that adv was being considered as an 11th hour point guard replacement that 3-star spike ultimately assumed.

Levert to Michigan is all but a done deal. I love his game. He is a pure shooter (the one thing we truly lacked) in our backyard. I hate that the staff didn't pursue him harder. His body needs work to compete in the BigTen but it will get there as he is still growing (only 17 years old).

I hope Della Valle pans out but my gut tells me tOSU may regret this one in the end.

Ohio State a 'perfect fit" for basketball recruit Amedeo Della Valle

Ohio State men?s basketball should improve its outside shooting with the signing of Italian international Amedeo Della Valle, a player who says he?s ready for the rigors of the Big Ten.

Della Valle, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Alba, Italy, recently signed his letter of intent to play for the Buckeyes next season. Della Valle played high school basketball at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., helping the team to its third ESPN National High School Invitational Championship during his senior year.

Della Valle said his comfort level with OSU?s program and coaching staff helped him make the choice to become a Buckeye.

?I got to meet the coaches, meet the players, take a tour on campus and see all the facilities,? Della Valle said. ?I really liked everybody there, so it was great.?

Michael Peck, Findlay Prep?s basketball coach, said Della Valle?s versatility is what made him stand out as a special player in high school.

?He can handle the ball, make plays off the bounce, find open teammates,? Peck said. ?Plus, he?s a great 3-point shooter and just has a high IQ with an unbelievable feel for the game.?

Della Valle said he played multiple positions at Findlay Prep, but prefers to play off the ball on the wing because that?s where he feels most comfortable.

Rivals.com ranked Della Valle as a three-star recruit, and he will bring OSU to a total of 10 scholarship players after losing forward Jared Sullinger to the NBA Draft, as well as guard Jordsn Sibert and forward J.D. Weatherspoon to transfer.

Della Valle also played international basketball with the Italian national team in the Under-18 European Championships. He led the Italian team in scoring with just more than 15 points a game during the tournament.

Della Valle said playing for the Italian team and Findlay Prep were good experiences that will help him adapt to the level of competition in the Big Ten.

?They were good experiences because it helped me develop my game and will have me ready to go on day one,? Della Valle said. ?Now, I think I?m really prepared.?

Bob Baptist thoughts from practice

-- Della Valle has a soft, good-looking three-point shot when he gets in proper position and doesn't rush it. But his best moment came when he drove on Craft from the right wing, leaned his shoulder into Craft to create space and pulled up for a short jumper he swished from the baseline. It was an impressive play by a freshman against a veteran defender like Craft.

-- I'm not sure what kind of role Trey McDonald might be ready to carve for himself, but one thing I found out tonight: leave him open at either foul-line elbow and you can count it for two.

I have read on a couple sites that this kid might be the next overlooked guy on the team. He is a deadeye shooter from the outside.

That may be true, but he looked hesitant and lost on the court in the exhibition game against Walsh... especially on defense. I don't want to draw too many conclusions from that game, but he looked far from the polished player we need as the backup SG off the bench. I think that's why you see Aaron Craft rotating to SG when Shannon Scott (our only other scholarship guard on the team) comes into the game for Lenzelle. That isn't happening because Matta wants it to happen... its because Amedeo's not the player we need him to be yet to be that guy to sub in for Lenzelle.

That said, he's going to get some playing time because of scholarship numbers, especially when we get into foul trouble at PG or SG. Hopefully Amedeo can get comfortable with the college game and the light turns on for him, because we desperately need scoring with 2 of our top 3 scorers from last year gone.

During last Friday's game against the Roos from UKMC the television announcers said that Matta told them that Amedeo was the most intelligent basketball player, from a basketball standpoint, that he has ever coached. That is pretty high praise to say the least.

COLUMBUS ? Brutus Buckeye is the official mascot of the Ohio State men?s basketball team. Unofficially, it is freshman Amedeo Della Valle.

?I love it. Honestly, I love the fans, and they love me, and I don?t know why,? he said to laughs from the media Friday.

Why is he a crowd favorite? Why do they roar when he checks into a game? Why to they shout for him to shoot every time he touches the ball?

?Look at him,? Ohio State junior point guard Aaron Craft said.

He?s got a shock of black curly hair. He?s slightly built for 6-foot-5. He?s got the reputation of being a 3-point shooter. He?s one of only two Italian-born players in Division I men?s basketball this season. Most of all, as the team?s only freshman, he?s everybody?s little brother.

?That?s a tough situation to be in, especially in the summer when you?re living by yourself and there aren?t a lot of freshmen on campus taking classes and you?re kind of thrown to the fire,? Craft said. ?He wanted to be a part of this team, and I think as a whole we did a good job of inviting him to things and letting him see what it is like.?

For his part, Della Valle is making the transition. Born and raised in Italy ? where his father Carlo played professionally for 15 years ? he moved to the United States for his senior year of high school, playing at high-powered Findlay Prep in Nevada.

He set the school record for 3s in a season with 66, then signed in the spring with Ohio State.

?I love it here, and I love playing with these guys,? Della Valle said. ?I think we have a great group of people, and the great thing is getting better every day.?
