Definitely took spike out of desperation ....but didn't adv came out and say michigan stopped recruiting him?
spike, who was offered by no other division one school, committed to m*ch*gan on 4/6. burke announced on 4/9 that he was returning. adv tweeted on 4/11 that m*ch*gan was no longer recruiting him.

the only reason for ttun no longer recruiting adv was that albrecht, who had no recruiting page on scout, rivals, or espn before his commitment, jumped first. he had to jump first. players like spike can't wait. players like adv, who had offers from multiple top programs, can wait.

anyway, though we don't know who will have the greater impact, i'm pretty sure any knowledgeable and unbiased fan would take adv over albrecht.

His point still stands. The reason Michigan stopped recruiting him was they took spike and Burke came back so there was no room for him. If they knew Burke was coming back they never would have offered Spike and would have continued to recruit Amedeo. Michigan didn't "cool" on him. The circumstances dictated the reason they stopped recruiting him.

good point. had m*ch*gan known that burke was returning, they would have definitely not gone after spike and perhaps not even amedeo.

Yeah we seemed to be done with the class til Burke considered leaving no way they would have considered taking Spike over Adv but wanted to get atleast 1 Ball handler in the fold just in case. Wish they wouldn't have made such a quick decision but we would have been hurting really bad at PG. I think that spike played on the aau team "SYF" with Robinson and McGary. Anyways Adv is a great pick up for you guys!

Ohio State men's basketball: Sharpshooting recruit picks OSU
By Bob Baptist
The Columbus Dispatch Sunday April 22, 2012

In year 1 A.D. ? After Diebler ? Ohio State went from being one of the most productive three-point shooting teams in the nation to the least productive in the Big Ten. So coach Thad Matta went hunting for someone to pick up the slack.

Is Amedeo Della Valle another Jon Diebler?

?I wish,? Della Valle said with a laugh. ?That would be great for me.?

Great, too, for the Buckeyes, who received an oral commitment from the 6-foot-4, 182-pound guard yesterday. He chose them over Texas A&M and Arizona after completing a visit to campus on Friday.

Della Valle is from Alba, Italy, and a senior at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev. He said he plans to sign and send his letter of intent to Ohio State this week, when his mother visits him in Nevada. NCAA rules require a parent?s signature on the letter to make it binding.

Perspective, please, on ADV

Fans who get wrapped up in recruiting seem to be really excited about the commitment of Amedeo Della Valle. Some -- even me, in The Dispatch on Sunday -- have mentioned him in the same breath with Jon Diebler because the Buckeyes recruited Della Valle, above all else, for his ability to make three-point shots.

It's important here, though, to take a breath and not compare Della Valle the freshman to the Diebler we remember -- the senior.

Remember Diebler the freshman? He shot 28.9 percent from behind the three-point arc and 30.4 percent overall.

He improved vastly as a sophomore -- 41.6 percent from three, 42.1 overall -- and was marginally better as a junior. He made a big jump again as a senior -- 50.2 from three and 50.7 overall -- when he was able to play on the same side of the floor as Jared Sullinger and make defenses pick their poison.

What I remember of Diebler his first couple of years was him having to adjust to the speed and athleticism of the game at the highest level of college basketball and learn how to find his shot in a half-court game. It took him a long time to learn how to release a good shot, with good foot positioning, quickly enough to beat the defense closing out on him. I can still hear coach Thad Matta talking about the importance of a player being in proper position to catch and shoot. It's a learned technique that is the product of endless repetition.

I'm expecting Della Valle to have to make the same adjustment Diebler did. And he'll probably have to have patience to make it happen. Diebler had that. Leaving early for the NBA never was his mindset. Della Valle would do well to take the same approach. With him, however, there is always the chance an Italian professional team offers him a lot of money and he jumps if he is not progressing at the rate he imagined he would.

"You never know how these guys are going to adjust," ESPNU recruiting analyst Reggie Rankin said. "That's the unknown. But his skill level, his ability to make shots, makes him attractive. They recruited that guy because he could make shots.

and by the way, scum fans, your program didn't "cool" on adv. you were scared that burke would depart and picked some low-hanging fruit (spike albrecht, a point guard who received a division one scholarship from only one school: your school; spike chose m*ch*gan over appy state; congrats on finally beating the mountaineers).

I can't stand Michigan, but I find it hard to believe they stopped recruiting him because of only one scholarship. Especially when they are going after another guard out of Ohio right now....I know nothing of their current scholarship availability, but I do know they are still recruiting the 2012 class.

Who knows, just an interesting tidbit.

*also, I am glad they stopped recruiting ADV, as he seems like a quality player, who hopefully will stay 3-4 years and develop into a team leader.

wbb3, if levert or another shooting guard commits to scum, then i'll concede to your perspective. however, considering that levert announced his departure after m*ch*gan "cooled" on adv, i expect that adv was being considered as an 11th hour point guard replacement that 3-star spike ultimately assumed.
