Women's basketball: Prahalis keeps player of year award at Ohio State
By Jim Massie
The Columbus Dispatch Tuesday February 28, 2012

Samantha Prahalis kept the Big Ten women?s basketball player of the year award in the Ohio State family yesterday when she was honored in votes by the conference coaches and media.

The Buckeyes have won or shared the award for eight consecutive seasons. Jantel Lavender won a record four times before this season, and Jessica Davenport won the three awards prior to Lavender.

?I?m very happy,? Prahalis said. ?I?m very appreciative to the voters, and I just want to thank my teammates for having faith in me and believing in me and for giving me the ball. I also want to thank my coaches for being behind me.?

Well-deserved honor. She played her heart out Sunday, and it was clear she was the driving force on the team. You guys have several talented players, but none matched her drive - at least in the one game I saw.

She's got a deadly shot, she's quick with the ball, she's a harassing defender and she makes good decisions on the fly.

I am somewhat surprised that you speak so highly of her. Most opponent's fans do not appreciate her at all. While I agree with most of your points, Sammy can sometimes have little tirades that do not benefit her teammates and she has been taken to task by a number of game officials.

However, she has given her heart and soul to our women's program for 4 years and the honor is well deserved.

She's now broken it, correct? According to the game tracker I'm watching she has at least one more assist in the second half.

She has - I had updated the thread title without making a post when it happened, about 11 minutes before your post. :wink2:

She had a rough game today, but they WON!
OSU 57
tsun 48

Tayler Hill hit three 3-pointers and scored 19 points as Ohio State held off a late charge to beat Michigan 57-48 in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten women's tournament Friday.Kalpana Beach scored 12 points for the second-seeded Buckeyes (25-5), who shot only 38 percent. Big Ten player of the year Samantha Prahalis scored 11 points but went 4 of 15 and had seven turnovers. However, her five assists made her the conference's all-time leader.

She's got skills. I know our players weren't happy with her, and some of our fans have been displeased with her demeanor in pressers. I haven't listened to her pressers to know what gripes they have, and really, it doesn't impact me if she's a saint or a thug.

I got to watch her warm up before the game in Lincoln and she was knocking down 3's like nobody's business. She was full of hustle in the game I watched in person, and I appreciate that. Just trying to give props where props are due.
