The Real Deal on the Hill, in its first year as a major national tournament, is really loaded. From Wayne Ellington to Thaddeus Young, this weekend in Fayetteville should be a special one.
</TD></TR><TR><TD colSpan=3>
A quick look at the pools for The Real Deal on the Hill reveals some monster matchups. How about a Saturday afternoon tussle between Greg Oden’s Spiece Indy Heat and Mike Beasley’s D.C. Assault? Folks, that’s in pool play!

Scout.com will be in Fayetteville on the campus of the University of Arkansas for the event. We’ll cover some of the marquee matchups and delve into the top players and surprise performers from what is sure to be one of the finest AAU weekends of the calendar year.

Among the highly celebrated players in attendance:

Greg Oden, Spiece Indy Heat (Scout.com No. 1)
Darrell Arthur, Team Texas (No. 4)
Wayne Ellington, Playaz (No. 6)
Thaddeus Young, Memphis Pump ‘n Run (No. 7)
Daequan Cook, Spiece Indy Heat (No. 8)
Derrick Caracter, NY Panthers (No. 10)
Gerald Henderson, Playaz (No. 12)
Lance Thomas, New Heights (No. 13)
Mike Conley, Spiece Indy Heat (No. 19)
Brook Lopez, EBO (No. 23)
<LI>Jon Scheyer, Illinois Warriors (No. 24)

That’s nearly half of Scout.com’s Top 25 congregated together for one event! Did we mention the young kids?

2007 standouts like Michael Beasley (Scout.com No. 2), Eric Gordon (No. 6), Nolan Smith (No. 7) plus Michigan Hurricanes teammates Darquavis Tucker (No. 20) and Alex Legion (No. 19) will be on the premises. This is one of those weekends where the stars will need to play like big timers each time out or someone is going to bump them from their spot. Games tip-off at 8 p.m. on Friday. The event has an official site but ScoutHoops.com will be there to bring you all the action. Plus, Scout.com West Coast analysts Tracy Pierson and Greg Hicks will be out in Las Vegas where the action should be just as hot!

This sounds like a great tournament, should be interesting to see how Conley performs.

With Greg looking liek he is leaning towards us right now, does this put us in the lead for MIke as well? I really hope so, but if he decides on Wake, I could understand.. though I just hope he sees what Matta could be putting together for the future. From what I have read, he could be eerily similar to Duke signee Greg Paulus... an extremely unselfish PG who can lead a team and run the offense. Nothing more you could as for. Plus, his experience with Oden could put those two on an uncanny level of comfort on the court. Getting him would be a tremendous get, though if we miss out... we always have Mayo, Lavender and Bassett to look forward to.

His comfort level with Daequan Cook is also very high with the two being on the same AAU team for the last couple years. I think you're right about Mike in that he's not going to light up the stat sheet, but he's great at getting his teammates involved and creating opportunities for them to excel.

Good point, also something to think about is now that Wake has lost Chris Paul to the NBA, are they as attractive to Conley as they were before?!?! Thats a question Im wondering if any "guru" has asked him yet.

Spiece lost to Memphis Pump and Run in the Finals by around 8 or 9. Great win for Memphis, Spiece just ran out of gas, Oden and Conley were dead tired and Conley got injured during a crucial moment in the 2nd half down 4 with 4 mins to go. When he returned after getting some treatment they were down 8 with 2 mins to go. I expect these two teams to clash again at the Adidas May Classic next month this rivalry is like the Bulls and the Knicks since Memphis has finally beat them. Oden had one of the best dunks I have ever seen on Thaddues Young off a spin move going baseline.

Recruiting News and Notes...

Jon Scheyer - is nothing but a taller JJ Redick, he was held to about 7 pts versus Spieces man 2 man defense. He cannot create his own shot at all.

Thaddues Young - 6'9, 3/4 with the best handle I have seen for someone that size, he also has a smooth stroke from 3. This guy is a BEAST, I would go so far as to say the #2 prospect behind Oden with the potential he has.

After this weekends tourney I would be shocked if Conley committed to Wake Forest, I believe Skip has seen the writing on the wall and moved on. I also would not be surprised if he just cancelled his visit all together and decided.2006 #1 Oden has come out from my understanding and named OSU his #1 school also 2007 #6 Eric Gordon has named OSU his leader. I saw Conley and Cook doing alot of recruiting and ALOT of other top prosepcts who were friends with Conley have begun to talk OSU, the most important being 2006 #7 Thaddues Young. Matta has been on Young alot and he knew of Conleys possible committment and after the game they talked for a while even exchanged numbers. I could realistically see Matta having...

PG - Mike Conley # 19
SG - Dave Lighty # 16
SF - Daequan Cook # 8
C- Greg Oden #1
PF- some other bluechip guy who undoubtably will commit after Conley. ( Maybe Young or some other big name guy)

<HR SIZE=1>DKAD, Skip gave up days ago.

Facts:
-We are recruiting Conley as hard as possible for over a year.
-Suddenly, Skip is mentioned to be visiting and recruiting other, lower ranked, 06 PGs quite actively.
-Over the course of 1-2 weeks, Conley tempers his interest in Wake Forest, and his interest in Ohio St skyrockets.
-Skip schedules an in-home visit with another 06 PG in a different state the day before Conley is to arrive.
-During perhaps the biggest tournament of the year, Skip is not present.
-Mike Conley decides to make his decision months before the date that had been expected for over a year.

Make of them what you will. I have my conclusion."

Sounds good to me!

I've frequented the Wake board for two years to keep updated on the situation with Ben Mauk at QB, but I've lost a lot of respect for them after reading that thread. They are great football fans because they don't expect much...but when it comes to basketball, they turn into Bucknuts Football board.

Luckily, their ridiculous comments about Thad and recruiting violations couldn't kill the buzz from the guy that started the thread. FWIW, he is considered VERY close to the situation and is well respected.

The Wake venom is slightly to be understood considering the allegations made of our athletic department, the relative mediocrity of our program lately, and the fact that the names involved amount to a recruiting haul of rare proportions for any school, let alone the Bucks. The thing they miss, however, is the geographic factor. It all started with Daequan, and good things are flowing from that. Why did Daequan pull the trigger? Obviously, Thad is a great recruiter, but the fact of the matter is that Daequan is from Ohio, Daequan played ball at the Schott in a big game atmosphere, Daequan was there for the win over the Illini, Lighty is following the momentum (being also from Ohio), this is flowing to Daequan's AAU teammates, who are located about 3 hours from Columbus, etc....The Deacon fans who smell something funny aren't being objective.

From the real deal on the hill event...Conley seems to be more athletic than last year and is considered the top floor general.

Ohio State has moved into a virtual dead heat with Wake Forest – and North Carolina occupies the third spot. They indicated that its highly unlikely he pulls the trigger during his visit to Wake this weekend and at one time was a virtual lock for Conley.

Conley states that OSU and Wake are in a deadlock at this point.

Any indication of an announcement? Some say mid-summer, some say in the next month, and some say not until the end of summer.... I've got mixed reports on that one.

Also does Conley (and Oden) still plan on officially visiting tOSU?

Spiece Indy Heat was defeated in the final of the Real Deal on the Hill event...76-62.

Conley was quiet but effectively strong with 14 points. He'll head to Wake Forest next weekend for an official visit.

All indications are that it will be early summer at this point. I am hearing 1 June is a possibility. Its my understanding that Conley and Oden will be visiting OSU sometime in May.
