PG Mike Conley (1st Team All BIG, NBA All-Star, Oscar Winner, Minnesota Timberwolves)

We're purely speculating with anybody around which this discussions occur...including Oden.

If you go by what Greg has said since day 1 you'd have to assume he's leaning towards coming back.
IMO speculating on this stuff detracts from the fun upcoming games. I'll wait till it's over and see what they have to say then.

I hope someone puts it up on youtube. It was ridiculous.
Agreed. I don't think CBS replayed it either since it didn't result in points, but that behind the back move got me out of my seat faster than any Oden dunk did against Memphis.

What do they mean by he likely won't have a choice in the matter if he keeps playing this way? I hate it when they state their opinions as facts.
it was a statement of opinion. no player is forced to go the nba. i'm sure what they are getting at is that he will be forecasted so high in the draft that they think that his hand will be forced. perhaps they also think that the competition for the guard position will be greater next year than it is this year. if lawson doesn't decide to leave, this may especially be the case. of course, i'm not claiming that lawson is a higher pick, but this is something a prospect has to consider. mayo, rose, and gordon are all point/shooting guards who will be solid competition. they're not the type of point guard that conley is, but they are definitely nba-type guards.

I think so too but it's just annoying that draft gurus assume all people value is money. Plus, I don't see Conley going higher than the 10th pick and I think he has top 5 potential. Conley has said on multiple occasions he's staying for atleast his sophomore year. I know things change but he hasn't given any indication he wants to leave.

well, money is what drives the draft and what often causes players to leave early, especially when a player is projected to be a top pick. also, these guys never stated that prospects only value money.

two players: pittman and gonzalez. gonzalez is a better example, though. he comes from an affluent family that is full of athletes. anything can happen. take with just a little bit more than a grain of salt that both senior and junior have stated that their plans are for a return. if conley continues his stellar play and makes it past georgetown, everything changes. though it appears that he will return, i'm certainly not holding my breath.

read my edit from my prior message and recognize the competition that he will have next year. if he stays for next year, it may be the case that staying for his junior year is a better choice than leaving immediately after his sophomore year.

That's why I'll never say a player is a lock to stay or leave. Gonzalez was a real shocker considering he loved school and his teammates. I think he was more of an exception though.

And that is a good point about the competition possibly being thicker next year. I still think he's top 5 once he gets that jumpshot down.

Mike Conley Jr., freshman guard

On how his speed is a big part of his game

"Speed definitely is a big part of my game. It keeps the defense unbalanced and we are able to control what the defense is doing. I love it because it works."

On playing in the Final Four against Georgetown

"We are just going to go after it and try to get the win for our seniors, Ivan and Ron. But it's the same tournament as before, so we have to treat it the same. The key is to stay focus."

On nearly exiting the tournament in close games against Xavier and Tennessee

"Earlier in the season, every loss we had was a heartbreaker. I nearly had the same feeling in the tournament. I hate losing, but I think our team is doing well because we have come so close to that feeling of heartbreak.

Everything is working out so far for us because of that. It would have been nice to have these experiences earlier in the season in games that weren't so big, but it will help us when we play a team like Georgetown."

I know Conley is very very good...

But one thing to keep in mind is that most PG's that make the jump to the NBA from either high school or one year of college are guys that are no longer in the league or just getting time off the bench...

The one lone exception being Chris Paul, and at this point I would compare him to Chris Paul in terms of getting to the hole, not having the best jumper etc., but I just think that Conley's overall size will hurt him if he goes to the NBA after this season...
