Holly Hart | The Flint JournalMott Community College's Jeremie Simmons made it official on Wednesday: The 6-2 All-American guard will play for Thad Matta at Ohio State next season.
Jeremie Simmons spent two years on the basketball courts and in the classrooms of Mott Community College, and only two seconds thinking about what he'll miss most about his the experience.
"Just knowing we were going to win every game by about 30," quipped Simmons, the national junior college player of the year, who on Tuesday signed and sent his letter of intent to play basketball at the Ohio State University. "But it was a great experience (at Mott). I appreciate a lot of things more now than I ever did."
Simmons, who verbally committed to the Buckeyes late last month after a two-day campus visit, was relieved to finally make it official.
"I went through the whole season thinking about where I would end up," said Simmons, who led Mott to its second consecutive NJCAA national championship in March. "It's a load off my shoulders."
Simmons, who averaged 21 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals as a sophomore, did not have the Buckeyes on his radar until a month ago.
"It was an odd recruitment, really," said Ohio State head coach Thad Matta, whose Buckeyes won the 2008 NIT Championship. "We got in relatively late on Jeremie."
