PG Jeremie Simmons (official thread)

I noticed that Simmons comes show a Division II junior college. Does anyone know the difference between Division I and II when it comes to junior college basketball:huh:

I know that he is originally from Chicago so obviously he has played against some very good talent growing up:biggrin2:

probably just the number of kids in the school or how big the program is...

His team did beat Columbus state in the finals for the NC...

Nice 3 way combo coming in of Simmons, Buford and Mullens. All can score and do it in different ways. Added to what we already have, I really like it.

Welcome Mr. Simmons. Prepare to work hard and play great defense, the rest will fall into place.

Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team adds point guard Jeremie Simmons, expect him to make an impact

Tuesday, April 29, 2008 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
For the second straight year, Ohio State is bringing in a junior-college men's basketball point guard. But Jeremie Simmons is no P.J. Hill.
Hill arrived last July after Mike Conley's departure for the NBA as a last-ditch find and was never expected to be more than a little-used, defensive-minded backup. Simmons, who is expected to sign his scholarship papers today, should be much more than that.
"I expect Jeremie to fight for time," Steve Schmidt, his coach at Mott Community College in Flint, Mich., said Monday. "Significant time. They recruited this kid to come in and make an impact. That's what my expectations are and that's what the kid's are."

It's Official: Matta Adds 2 JUCO Signees........the staff received Simmons' LOI....

Fantastic.....Competition between PJ Hill, Anthony Crater, and Jeremie Simmons at the point guard position will be a good thing. In addition, I wouldn't be surprised to see two of them on the floor at times next year. It worked with Butler and Connelly.

Possibility if we go small and Lighty has to slide down to the 4 position.

The second thing worth noting is that the 6-foot-2 Simmons has, according to Matta, a 6-6 wingspan. So while his ability to penetrate the defense could be a welcome addition to the offense, his long arms should help the Buckeyes cover the floor on defense -- as long as he uses them without reaching and fouling.

Another guy with some length which will be nice.:)
