PG Aaron Craft (B1G 6th MOY '11, Def POY '12, Acad AA, Dolomiti En. TR - Italy)

Last night against ULM just watched Aaron when the Buckeyes were playing defense and he just seems to amaze me over and over. He almost knows where the pass is going before the passer knows. His basketball IQ is just so high I do not think I have seen a better defensive backcourt player in my lifetime. He is the Bill Russell of backcourt defenders.

Craft has cracked the B1G's All-Time top-10 for Assists now, passing Deron Williams and Eric Snow today. I know there has been no mention of this possibility elsewhere, but Craft has an outside shot at breaking the B1G career assists record. He would have to average a little over 5 assists per game for 24 more games. Theoretically I believe OSU could play in as many as 26 more games and as few as 19 more. He came into the Purdue game averaging 4.6 assists on the season.

Craft needs to be in the discussion for National Player of the Year. He's proof positive that statistics like points per game and rebounds per game don't tell nearly all of the story.

I don't think there's a player in college basketball who is more important to his team's success this season than Aaron Craft.

I mentioned in the game thread that Aaron Craft and Jay Burson are my all time favorite Buckeye players.

When he puts his mind to it, he can completely take over a basketball game. He has every tool except for the pure jump shot but even then, when the game is on the line, he finds a way to score. The sequence where he steals on the defensive end, ends up driving and getting a shot that barely doesn't fall - balls on the floor and he somehow leans one way and dives the other to intercept the rebound from MSU - and CALLS THE FREAKING TIME OUT..... Ohio State ball. Ridiculous doesnt describe it.

Absolutely love this kid. He could totally bone my sister.

Lmao.

Regardless of how this year ends for Craft in his Sr. season, his legacy as the best defender I have ever seen @ OSU and one of the best I have ever seen @ the college level, period, is cemented in stone. It isn't just the assists and steals; it's the hustle plays, the leadership, the desire to compete on every possession for 40 mins, his disregard for his body, the refusal to lose. Kid is a winner. I know I speak for all of Buckeye Nation, the kid will be missed.

Craft had an absolutely awful first half last night. Sparty fans should keep that in mind, along with the fact he's unlikely to repeat such a performance when the two teams meet again. If they're going to rely upon Craft and Scott to turn it over double digits in order to beat us, they won't beat us. Simple as that.

Can't seem to link the actual .gif

Loved his in-bounds in the second half
I wonder if you get an assist when you throw the ball to yourself:wink:

According to this article Ohio State's Aaron Craft on the previously unbeaten Buckeyes: 'We really haven't done much this year'
while waiting to get the ball from the official to inbound the ball he leaned over to one of the ball boys and said something to the effect that he should not have missed that layup or three point shot. Nice of him to have a sense of humor in a pretty tense moment.

Also here are a few quotes from that article:
“This doesn’t happen to a good team,” Craft said. “As much as we like to think we’ve been together and been in the battles, we haven’t done it with this team. It goes to show we really haven’t done much this year.”
“The Big Ten is a whole other animal,” Craft said. “You can’t come in lackadaisical or come in not connected or things like this happen. We lost the game in the first half.”

OSU needs Craft to step it up offensively if they are going to reach their goals as a team this season. No points until the 10 minute mark of the second half from your leader (who had played all 30 minutes) is not going to cut it.
yeah, he really needs to step it up because he is not doing anything to help the team except for carrying the other 4 players that are on the court on his back. I wonder where this team would be without him… nevermind I do not think I want to know.

I think DZ makes a good point and I agree with him... if OSU has goals bigger than winning the Big Ten then Craft has to be a threat to the opposing defense to help open the floor for the others. There is no reason why he can't score 7-10 points every night considering he could get half of that total off of free throws.

Defensively, intensity, and leadership - He exceeds every one else in the country at those parts of the game. Offensively, he just needs to be in the back of the opposing defense's mind to give them something else to think about besides Ross/Smith/Thompson/Loving (whomever is on for that game). The more you give a defense to think about, the more likely it is they will make a mistake.

I know what you are saying but unfortunately Aaron is not really an offensive threat unless he drives the ball. He just cannot shoot the ball very well from the outside and if teams take away his driving lanes he is very limited when it comes to scoring. He does everything else so well that it is just unfortunate that he is not a better outside shooter and I do not know why..
