PF Jared Sullinger (2x 1st Team ALL B1G & All American, Anyang KGC, S.Korea)

Recap: 30 things I took away from Saturday
December, 19, 2010
By Andy Katz

What did we learn from an eventful Saturday? Here are 30 things I took away from the day:

1. Evan Turner was right. Last season?s national player of the year said in the spring that Ohio State freshman Jared Sullinger would be not just the Big Ten freshman of the year but the Big Ten player of the year. Well, he?s on his way. Sullinger racked up 30 points and 19 boards in an MVP performance for the Buckeyes in their 22-point win over South Carolina.

I really wonder how big Sullinger. Going back through the thread there was concern when he was a 6'6" freshman and how he needed to grow to play inside.

He reminds me of Charles Barkley more than Al Horford, Elton Brand which are guys who he seems to be compared to.

Per the roster they list him:

6'9" 280, that seems to be a big embellishment.

The Mayor understands how to play the post. He uses his body to hold his position and receive the pass. For a freshman he is great. Watching the ladies today Lavender could learn from watching JS. This team is fun to watch already and they have room to grow.Go Bucks:oh:

Barkley is only about 6-3 to 6-4, but he could always jump out of the gym even when he was 40 lb overweight. That doesn't describe Jared in the least.

I think Elton Brand and Kevin Love are the best comparisons for Sully, though I think he's clearly better than Brand.

He grew a lot in HS. If he's not 6'9 then he is really close.

He reminds me of Danny Fortson from UC. Wide body, quick feet, not overly athletic but can still elevate when needed.

If we had Turner this year.......

Even without him this year we're a real factor for the ship.

this is not a knock on Evan at all.....But

I don't think that we would be a better team with him this year. I know that sounds crazy....but hear me out.

Last year we spent a lot of time standing around waiting for Evan to do his thing. This year we have better ball movement, more players involved, and a better inside game. Evan would have had to change his game around to help this years squad.

Would Sullinger be scoring at will if Evan was dominating the ball? I'm sure he would be getting double digits but nothing like he is doing now. Now Sullinger is just wearing teams down in the paint and it is like taking candy froma baby in the second half. Not sure that would be the case with Evan.

We are just an all around better team now with opponenets having no idea who is going is going to score at any given time.
