PF Jared Sullinger (2x 1st Team ALL B1G & All American, Anyang KGC, S.Korea)

Seems like there are some very high expectations for Sullinger. Since he's not quite tall enough to be a true center, would he play PF? Even then 6'7 is a bit short for that position right?

I'm not the best with basketball comparisons, but would it be right to compare Sullinger to maybe, DeJuan Blair at Pitt? That'd be great if he could have that kind of impact.

Question for someone who has seen him play recently: has he changed his body composition at all? Besides just growing a little bit, has he lost any weight or converted any of his weight from fat to muscle? I was incredibly impressed with him last year, as I think I wrote about in this thread. However, the one thing that really excited me was to think of how dominant he could be if he was able to lose some weight or convert some of his bad weight into good weight. As dominant as he is right now, if he could become more athletic, I have a hard time seeing many players better than him in the 2010 class.

I watched him play against Newark when he was a freshman, and he was plump. Now, as a junior, he looks taller, more matured, and has lost a lot of his plumpness. He is still pretty thick but he's not overweight by any means. I don't think he is ever going to be a lean guy but under the right weight training program, he can become an even bigger force inside.

Is he a Blair (Pitt) type body size, and rough style play like he is? I like that style of play from the guys in the paint!

He is not cut like Blair...Honestly he reminds me of Terrance Dials in terms of the way he looks...

But he is a more athletic version, and he has the PF game, that TD didn't have...

He has great lower body strength, to move guys out of his space...

Top seed Northland advances, barely
Poor free-throw shooting culprit vs. Westerville North
Sunday, March 15, 2009 3:33 AM
By Steve Blackledge
Taylor Huffman of Newark blocks Marco St. John's path to the basket. Dublin Scioto defeated the 2008 Division I champion Wildcats in a district final.

Many who saw top-seeded Northland wriggle away with a 59-56 victory over Westerville North yesterday in a Division I district championship game in the Ohio Expo Center Coliseum might wonder if the Vikings have what it takes to win another game, let alone a state championship.

Coach Satch Sullinger isn't worried about his team's performance, or so he says.

"Ugly ? advance," he said with a smile. "All it's about right now is surviving, and that's what we did. Am I going to panic? No, we'll just focus on coming out the next game and doing it better."

The brunt of Northland's woes was rooted in 16-of-36 free throw shooting.

"We should have knocked down our free throws," said junior forward Jared Sullinger, who had 17 points and 11 rebounds. "They're a must at this time of year. Defensively, I thought we played great. Everybody's going to give us their best shot. We just have to learn how to absorb the blows."

Jared had 23, 15 last night as Northland beat Grove City.

They play Coffman tomorrow night for a chance to go to state. Should be one heck of a game as Coffman is the 2 seed and Northland is the 1...

Still hoping for the Sullinger/Sibert matchup in the finals...

Northland, Watterson, DeSales, Logan Elm advance (Boys hoops @ dispatch.com)

Top-ranked Northland held high-octane Grove City to just 20 points in the second half and rallied for a 70-64 victory before a nearly-full Ohio Expo Center Coliseum Thursday in a Division I regional semifinal.

Northland (24-1) will face Dublin Scioto (24-1) for the regional title at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Coliseum.

Ohio State-bound Jared Sullinger played like the Mr. Basketball candidate that he is, scoring 23 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. He went 10 of 14 from the field.

Hopefully, Northland can advance to the state and play Princeton if they also advance.

I was there...dissapointed I had to miss the end of the game, as I had somewhere to be...Left with 4 minutes to go...

Sullinger has great great great hands...The rebounds he is able to pull down, passes he is able to grab...One thing that Lauderdale and Mullens lack...It is hard to get position when you have 3 guys surrounding you, but he trys the whole game to get position...He doesn't seem to take plays off, He isn't a guy that is really going to be a force on the defensive end in terms of block shots, but he will pull down the defensive rebound, get position and block someone out with his big lower body...

He also has great touch around the bucket, and with another full year to improve his game, he is going to be very good when he comes in here...

Can't wait till next weekend to see him at the Schott...

BTW Weatherspoon is one of the most athletic kids I have ever seen in person...He had a rebound last night where I swear he grabbed at about 11 ft in the air...No joke...He lacks much of an offensive game, but has the athletic ability you play with...Kinda like Wallace was last year...he will be a good player for XU 2-3 years down the road...

Also McDougald could play ball here...He took off one play outside the lane and tried to dunk 2 hands over Sullinger, who took the charge, but he lost the ball when he made contact with Sullinger, but if he holds on to the ball, he puts it down with ease, and he is a very good shooter from deep as well...

For those that have seen him, how does a Kevin Love comparison fit?

From what I've heard they seem to have a similar game. Great hands, high IQ, tenacious rebounder, crafty scorer with a jump shot, but moderate athlete.

Another name that comes to mind is Elton Brand.

That'd be great. Love had a great frosh season. Is Sullinger a one and done player?
