PF/C Micah Potter (transfer to Wisconsin)

Potter had to know he wasn't going to start over Kaleb. So I guess he thought he might get to start at the 4? I mean, Holtmann was very blunt and quick to answer in the post-game presser for the exhibition that we wouldn't see much of Kaleb and Potter together for defensive reasons, so I'm not sure how Potter just now is getting the picture that he wasn't going to be a starter this season (yet he would have been a very important rotation player).

This definitely sucks for our post depth. I actually had some hope that maybe Potter had turned a bit of a corner given that he put up 13 and 6 in only 10 minutes in the exhibition. LeDee looked solid, too, but in the preseason interviews the coaches did a lot of talking about things Ledee needed to work on, so I'm not exactly super optimistic about him getting thrown into the fire like this as THE back-up post player (though I guess Young can slide over there a bit, too, or even Andre sometimes). But at least Ledee will get to play!

I dont think Micah was the greatest fit for this team right now if starting was a priority, so I dont blame him for leaving, just odd timing. Didnt seem quick enough for the 4 and not skilled enough to start over Kaleb, plus Holt is going for a smaller, quicker type team as opposed to Matta's teams. I guess he didn't want to accept a reserve role. I feel confident that LeDee can take over the reserve 5 role and perform the defense and rebounding roles perhaps even better. But it is a hit to the team's depth no doubt. Hopefully Potter is able to find a better situation for himself.

I think with Young getting the majority of minutes in practice and on the court Potter probably thought that he should be getting a few more minutes, if not equal minutes, to Young. I do not blame him because I think he brings a very similar skillset as Young and he might be a better offensive player. I do not blame him for transferring now before the season begins but if he was thinking about this after last season freeing up a scholarship would have been nice. However, I do not think that he knew Young was going to get more minutes than him after last season. Best of luck to him. Never caused any problems that I am aware.

Me too. I don't know what his career aspirations are nor do I know how he is doing on the academic side. In addition, I don't claim to be an expert in evaluating NBA potential. With that being said I would say his chances of playing in the NBA are about zilch. If he improves enough after 2 more years of college ball he might be able to play in some European league a few years.

I don't see where transfering is going to help him academically at all. My advise (which nobody ever asks for) would be to stay at Ohio State, make sure you are in a degree program with an actual career, work hard at basketball, graduate, and try your hand in Europe (if any basketball offers come in); if not, get on with your life after basketball pursuing a career related to your degree, etc.
