PF/C Micah Potter (transfer to Wisconsin)

I'm not sure he will be able to play the 4 in college at least from a defensive standpoint as he doesn't possess the necessary lateral quickness to guard what most teams do with the 4 position. And while his shooting touch is excellent for a big, he gets very little lift on it, so when facing someone his own size, he might have some trouble getting the shot off.

The skills and basketball sense are there if he can improve his athleticism.

Usually you hope the athleticism is there and the skills and basketball sense are what come around...

I haven't seen anything official, but Thad was on with Cavs TV guys during their preseason game at the Schott last night. They popped up a graphic that showed 5 players -- Lyle, Tate, Bates-Diop, Loving, and Potter.....Maybe that has led to some speculation? Seems like a possible starting lineup.

Well, we can watch his work-out vids on YouTube and Elite Training. He's put in a lot of work since leaving Mentor for Montverde, and it shows. I wouldn't have pegged him as starting over Trevor Thompson and David Bell (and Funderburk for that matter) so soon though. I wouldn't consider that lineup as anywhere near settled. He has a nice skill set that lends itself well to an up-tempo lineup; kind of a modified small ball with those other four. He looks ready to contribute, so I do expect to hear and see good things, just not the starting nod, yet. He definitely looks like a top-50 player rather than the 200's 247 has or the number 15 center ESPN lists. ESPN pegged Nick Ward from Gahanna and Michigan State at six. Those numbers should easily be reversed. I've never been impressed with Ward's clips. Potter will eventually shine, and maybe he already has.

whered you see this???

As F squiggly mentioned I did see it during the Cavalier broadcast, me just figuring I had just been slacking regarding basketball Bucks info thought it may be common knowledge that I just was late on, I don't know if there are links to Thad's quotes but I believe I heard him say that Micah Potter has blown his mind with how much he improved since he last saw him to when he arrived on campus, in his elite training videos as Habanero Buck mentions. It does look like Potter has filled out nicely and even gained some definition and seems his footwork is a lot better now as well, I can already tell that work ethic won't be an issue with this kid.

Also haven't really watched enough of him previously to be sure absolutely, but his athleticism and coordination also seems improved.

I guess we'll get to find out about Ward sooner than later. MSU has lost two front court guys to injuries and it sounds like they will be out for a while (Schilling and the UNLV transfer). Ward has a pretty good low post game and plays with fire, but he doesn't always play with his head. With their lack of depth, he will probably have to play a little passive on the defensive end. I have no way of knowing how much Potter has improved since leaving Montverde, but Ward was the better player this past season.

Potter was team MVP of a Montverde squad that faced the best of the best nationally, while practicing against Silvio De Sousa (top 10 class of 18), Bruno Fernando (Maryland freshman), Simi Shi ttu (top ten class of 18) and E.J. Montgomery (Auburn commit). I have no idea how you can evaluate these two based on last season, but it is safe to say that Potter grew a lot more his last year in high school than Ward did. He possibly grew as much as any other player in the country.
