Finally a big who has some offensive skill! Could be a kid who develops well considering he actually can shoot, compared to some other bigs that have came through OSU who struggled to hit any shot beyond a layup.

this guy brings a whole different dimension to the frontcourt. I posted this thought elsewhere but I think he can develop into a great pick 'n pop guy at OSU. he shot 39% from 3 this past season on a decent number of attempts and is mobile enough to get those shots at this level, but big enough and works hard enough to play inside, too. I dunno if Matta's ever had a guy like that here. Sully might be the closest thing. Twig fancied himself that kind of player but wasn't really, not adequately anyways.

i think Potter himself said he only averaged about 1 3 point attempt per game. Potter is like Kaminsky in the way he used to be a guard but had a major growth spurt, i think he was only 6'3 or 6'4 or so in his sophmore year. i dont think his older brother is very big.

I read an article from a while back, don't remember from where, that Potter said he didn't play AAU ball his soph year because he was playing baseball and that his older brother is on the baseball team at WVU, so that is probably correct with their height. Also said he's young for his grade so he might not be done growing as he's still 16.

Here is a real good article on Micah regarding his love for Ohio State, his growth both as a basketball player and person, and the fact that he works out with Derek Funderburk twice a week.
As a freshman, he was 6-foot-5, but he has only added strength and skill since first arriving at Mentor. Now he will leave as the first Big Ten basketball player coached by Mentor's Bob Krizancic.

"He's put in a lot of time to improve his strength," Krizancic said. "He set a goal to go big time. He's developing into the complete player. I don't even think he's grown into his body yet. He had a great window to improve."

He's also developed into an inside-outside threat, as he shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range as a junior.

For Potter, there has always been something special about Ohio State, and after committing to the Buckeyes on Monday, he is now a part of that community.

"Ohio State has always been a dream school growing up in Ohio," Potter said. "I've always cheered for them for basketball or football."

I agree, the pick & pop element has been missing from the OSU offense of late. Other than Sully, who could do pretty much anything including hit from midrange and 3, there have only been a couple reliable mid-range shooters among the bigs (Twigs and Madsen).

Personally I think that is the one area where it would be good for Matta's recruiting to shift a bit, to focus more on big men who can shoot. He takes credit for being one of the first with the stretch 4, but I think the trend in basketball now is toward even the center position featuring a guy who is good at stepping out and shooting from the FT line area and beyond. The more you prioritize getting centers who can help spread the floor and cause problems for more traditional big men who are uncomfortable away from the paint, the better. The classic big men who are actually good at posting up in the paint are few and far between anymore. I am glad to see Potter on board from the standpoint of he can bring some of those new era offensive skills to the C position, hopefully we will see more guys with his kind of skills joining the team.

One writer's opinion
Potter is much improved from the last time I saw him as a high school sophomore over a year ago. He showed good touch from the outside for a player who's 6-foot-10, 245 pounds, but his biggest asset might be in the pick-and-roll game. Potter has the big body you want from a center, but also has the feet and hands to roll off screens and finish inside, or pop off screens and knock down a jumper.
