Peyton Manning (Purveyor of Budweiser and tea bags)

It's interesting to me how people try to throw all three cases together when they cover such a broad spectrum.

Winston raped a girl. He should be in jail.
Manning was a jock asshole. There's a reason he lost every lawsuit vs the Dr. he humiliated.
Newton stole a laptop, got kicked out of school for academic fraud & is suspected of being paid to end up at Auburn (IME with the school in question that is probably true). While not being an individual of character, there is no indication Newton has ever imposed himself sexually on another person.

Despite how hard the hate whitey crowd is trying to make race an issue, the real reason nobody paid attention to Manning's nastiness is because it happened 20 years ago. People seem to forget that Roethlisberger has been publicly savaged for his behavior (arguably worse than Winston).
That and the lack of social media at the time. I could see an arc similar to Winstons, actually, if all had been equal in that regard at the time.

Yes the difference in how stories gained traction in that time period is as much a factor as the gap in time. Anyone think Johnny Manziel is being treated with kids gloves?

I won't lose any sleep if the uproar causes Nationwide & other sponsors to withdraw their sponsorship of Manning.

From where I sit, Newton has been savaged in the press and by the public far more than Winston, Roethlisberger or Manning, and he's the only one of them whose ("alleged") misdeeds really didn't involve imposing himself physically or sexually on others. EDIT: Manziel has been savaged too, but that's because, unlike the others, he's performed on the field like dog shit.

Manziel has definitely been treated with kid gloves. By Aggy. By the media. By Browns.
At this point he's not... but only after setting fire to countless bridges along the way.
Let's not forget this wasn't his first altercation w/girlfriend either and he got the benefit of the doubt the first time.

Not to derail this off the Peyton Manning bashing... but, yeah, the recent Savaging of Newton in the press has been... just... bizarre. And it seems the worst savaging in the press* because its just been borderline moronic and pointless. I mean, sure there were some tweets here and there, weirded out moms not liking dances and being a role model and all that bullshit... which should have been a non-story. Didn't we JUST do this with Kaepernick's tats? Then we get to the fucking zombie presser reporter questions leading up to the Super Bowl that would have led me believe they were addressing Doug Williams. Like, you know, we've had Black QB's before... that, you know, played pretty well... (DougWilliamsWarrenMoonRandallCUnninghamMikeVickDonovanMcNabbSteveMcNairI'mTiredofTypingbutYouGetThePoint) and some of those guys, believe it or not... engaged in some controversial activities... Now, I'd blame a little of it on Cam, for how he responded and stoked the flames a little... but, I think he was just trying to makes sense of all the hubbub, and it all became sort of self prophesizing. The Whole thing was truly bizarre.

Well that and the Mediots were basically putting him on a pedestal that was of their own making - sure he played into it a big, but who really wouldn't at his age?

When he didn't prove the mediots right in their idol-worshiping, they've turned on him big time.

Yeah, don't disagree... it seemed like just a huge amount of noise over 1. Not very much stuff and 2. well traveled ground
