Peyton Hillis (official thread)

Curse is stupid.

  • 2010, Troy Polamalu/Larry Fitzgerald: Polamalu only played five games due to knee injuries, Steelers missed playoffs; Fitzgerald wasn?t affected much (97 receptions, 1,092 yards, 13 TD, Pro Bowl).
  • 2009, Brett Favre: Feuded with Packers, traded to Jets, horrible down the stretch (lost 4 of last 5).
  • 2008, Vince Young: Missed 1 game with quad injury; led Titans to first playoff appearance in four years.
  • 2007, Shaun Alexander: Fractured foot, missed six games; fewer yards and TDs in '06 AND '07 than in '04 OR '05.
  • 2006, Donovan McNabb: Sports hernia in first game, missed seven games; feuded with Terrell Owens all year; had been to five straight Pro Bowls, hasn't been since.
  • 2005, Ray Lewis: Broke wrist, missed one game; first season without interception; missed 10 games next year with thigh injury.
  • 2004, Michael Vick: Fractured fibula one day after video game was released, missed 11 games; Pro Bowl next 2 seasons; obvious issues since then.
  • 2003, Marshall Faulk: Ankle injury, missed two games, never rushed for 1,000 yards again.
  • 2002, Daunte Culpepper: 4-7 record before season-ending knee injury.
  • 2001, Eddie George: Career season, but fumbled in playoffs as top-seeded Titans lost first game to Ravens.
  • 2000, Barry Sanders: Retired one week before training camp.
you may think its stupid but there is obviously a scary trend going on here...i would rather have hillis healthy and have a great season then see him on the cover of a fucking video game

Fitzgerald was affected significantly... he only caught 6 TDs and they came vs STL, OAK, TB, KC, SF.

He was a disaster in fantasy football. He usually turned in 4-6 catches for 60 yds 0 tds.

He wasnt on the cover last year and was FAR from healthy

Scary?

This is Dumb

Vince young missed one whole game oooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo

Farve lost 4 games

Brees oh ya nothing there.

I got a bridge for sale, you down ??

Fact is there are injuries all over the NFL. Hillis and Vick both missed games last year. Which list is bigger, People that got hurt, banged up last year AND, lost games or People who stayed 100% healthy and had a MVP year.

2008, Vince Young: Missed 1 game with quad injury; led Titans to first playoff appearance in four years.

OMG i would hate to see this !!!!!!

ya brees had a awesome year..he threw the most INT's of his career and then lost to seattle in the first round of the playoffs...oh ya...nothing there...favre has never been the same and i would love to see you argue how awesome vince young is these days...its easy to call me a idiot and whatever else because my argument is based on something that doesn't exsist unless you believe in it...my main point is cleveland is a city that hasn't had its share of good luck for nearly 50 years so why get boners for hillis being on the cover of a game that has a history of bad luck for the player on the cover?

I hope he wins even more now lol

GO HILLIS!!!!!!!!

Just name me ONE player from last year, that you could say WOULD'NT have been cursed if he was on the cover. One superstar from last year that went w/o injury and had an awesome year. then you'll see my point. NOT VERY MANY WOULDN'T be considered cursed.

You name the player, I'll give you the "curse"

BTW, i did not call you an idiot or anything else. The theory is dumb. Finding things that are "cursed" is easy.

I am willing to risk the curse. The Brown's luck is so bad, I think it is likely that a Hillis cover will actually reverse their fortunes and lead to great things. I have done some very complicated calculations to confirm this, and I won't bother you with the details regarding the theory of relativity and whatnot. It turns out that in quantum physics Red Right 88 + The Drive + The Fumble = Phuck Me. So as you can see, it is all good, bring on the curse, I am not afraid. :pirate1:

Madden Curse? The Cleveland Curse laughs in the face of the Madden Curse.

Being on the cover of the game can't do anything to him that wouldn't come to him 10x worse by simply putting on a Browns jersey.

I like how you argued about Vincent as though someone were arguing his season was proof of the curse. He was listed to give a full analysis of the list rather than picking and choosing like you are doing.

Young was the one exception in a decade, unless you ignore Favre's implosion down the stretch that made John Cooper and John L Smith look clutch by comparison.

Speaking of Brees and picks, how about:

- Picked the name Bowen for his son born on 8/20
- Picked off by Bowens for two pick sixes on 8/25
- Picked off four times and humiliated by Cleveland at home on national tv

- Picked off in first game by lousy seahawks after being picked as preseason favorites

And no, that list is not filled with common injuries like you're trying to argue.

Troy, Donovan, Shaun, Ray, Mike, Daunte all had huge injuries.

The exceptions were Marshall, Vince and Brett. Two of those saw their careers completely fall apart that season, going from top dog to broken old timer. The third is the exception to the rule, Vince.

Is there a magical force waiting to slay hillis if he is the cover guy? No, but there is a pretty clear pattern of unusually bad or unlucky seasons when they are chosen that year.

Tonyank, Brees was the face of the rebuilt NOLA area after Katrina.

EA made the obvious announcement on 4/22 that he was the cover athlete.

?I didn?t even get to enjoy being the cover boy for a day before the jinx hit,? Brees said. ?I?m literally sitting there on my couch admiring the thing for the first time when breaking news hits CNN that there is a massive amount of oil leaking out of a damaged rig in ? you guessed it ? the Gulf of Mexico, right off the coast of ? you guessed it ? Louisiana, which is the state where ? you guessed it ? New Orleans is. I just hope they don?t put me on the cover ofSports Illustratedthis year. I don?t want a sink hole to swallow the French Quarter.?

During this whole Vote thing, A tsunami hit Japan. They Vote is now cursed.
What a terrific rebuttal. I'm convinced, since Japan has so much relevance to an American game, American company, and sport with almost no Japanese participation, unlike many other sports.

EA is in California, yet your curse tsunami didn't touch them despite sharing a common coast.

No, you were arguing there was no coincidence, that there was nothing noteworthy here

Vick, Favre, Faulk, Culpepper, Alexander, McNabb all saw their careers fall apart after being on the cover.

According to you, if Hillis gets hurt next year like those guys, if will be just like this year. You know, other than not missing a single game

Is it supernatural? No, but it is equally absurd to pretend like there isn't a rash of bad luck for the past 11 covers.

from reading up on the curse. This is what I agree with.

To earn the honor of being put on the game cover, a player is usually coming off of a career year. Some regression the following year is to be expected, whether that player is featured on the cover or not, because players generally don't produce two career years in a row.
