Don't Boo your own team people. :(

I was not at the game, but my impression was they were booing the play calling at the end of the first half... not the team. Maybe it's twisted logic, but I'm much more okay with booing playcalling... maybe because the coaches get paid (very well, at that) to do their job. Personally, I was not happy with the last possession of the half and although I didn't "Boo" in my own family room, I did have a few choice words for the calls.

A) It is usually impossible to tell what particular thing people are booing against, and trying to make a distinction (team vs. playcalling) after the fact is a disingenuous attempt to save face; B) the guys calling the plays are part of the team, so the "fans" who boo the playcalling are booing the team anyway; and C) the "fans" were booing the players - trust me, I was there.

Booing your team says a lot more about you than it says about your team.

I was in the student section, block O South, where the crowd gets its cues from for better or for worse, and the boos were most definitely directed at the play calling. I can tell you this with 100% certainty because everyone in the section was expressing their displeasure when the first play of the drive was run. Running with a minute to go in the half down 11 is inexcusable. I was not booing, and I think it is ridiculous to do so, but those that were were definitely booing the play calling, not the players.

BUt that's just it, you cannot boo without dumping on the players. Their failures are why they were booing.

when they executed properly with the exact same style of plays, the malcontents were squealing with delight as they ran all over psu.

Before the half they called two runs and threw a dumpoff to the rb. When boom made the plays, they were happy. When saine didnt , they swore and boo angrily at tressel for holding them

Besides that, they are a family. You cant insult their leader.

but most of all, it is incredibly selfish, ignorant and hateful. It turns a home field advantage into a hostile bunch of hecklers.

I would argue that is ridiculous, but unfortunately much of the stadium was convinced of that exaggerated absolute.

They were buried in their own end. Their quarterback was missing wide open guys right in front of him, had a bad case of happy feet, and was not throwing accurately at all.

Meanwhile PSU had timeouts left, had been dominating Pryor in the passing game and stood to get the ball in great field position with a solid return after a few incompletions.

Are there varying opinions on what to do there? Sure, but ask tressel that in his called in show, dont embarrass your team in their own stadium because you wanted them to be dangerously aggressive against the odds with a qb who was playing poorly.

I have to say that I was not happy when halftime rolled around. I was at a friend's house to watch the game, and told him that this game felt like the Wisconsin game and that we are going to lose no matter what we did in the second half. He was laughing at me in the second half when I couldn't stay seated with all of the good stuff the Buckeyes were doing. (Yes, lots of beer was involved.)

Turned out to be a great game for the good guys, and I am so glad they proved me wrong!:osu:

Agree 100%. And from where I sat, it certainly seemed that the fans were booing the players.

I can't disagree more strongly with this. The first half was abysmal. Get into the locker room without further damage. Anyone remember the Redskins in the Super Bowl attempting a screen pass deep in their own end at the end of a first half that had gone badly? That pass was intercepted for a pick 6 and the game was over.

The second half turned out pretty well so I'd say that starting with the decision to end the first half and get into the locker room everything went about as well as it could have from that point.

And yes, to me it seemed that it was the team that was being booed.

Does anyone know the bye week routines?

Have to start questioning whether we should change something considering this is a regular occurrence after almost every bye week.

They could start the second week in September. I'd have a bad case of the shakes, but that would end the games with Bye.

Long time opponent of booing amateur teams and players, but there was no question the boos were directed at the play calling. If it is 4th and 20 at your own 1 and you are behind the fans want you to go for it.

I would give the fans a thumbs down for football IQ on this one, but would give them a pass on decorum.

And if the running back busts off a 25-yard run, the play call is still inexcusable, right?

You can't boo one (the play calling) without booing the other (the team). And as I said before, the play callers are part of the team, so when you boo them, you boo the team. That's what's inexcusable.
