Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Sorry - it's been a while since I've had my fix of Penn State fans feeling entitled to something they don't really deserve.

Thread is about whether Penn State wins the national championship in 2025. OP says he's optimistic about 2025.
Some responses:
Then what would we complain about?

But here's the one that made me want to comment:
If we’re relying on the refs or lucky breaks, we’re so screwed.
See, the championship teams don't put their faith in the referees. Championship teams win despite players getting ejected for targeting against Nebraska, even though the league comes out later and says that that decision has been reversed. Championship teams win despite interceptions that are reversed because a defensive player breaks an NFL rule (not an NCAA rule) against Tennessee. Championship teams win despite interceptions ARE NOT reversed because the official doesn't call DPI against Tennessee. Championship teams score touchdowns when they have first-and-goal at home, against Ohio State. Or they score more than 0 offensive touchdowns.
Of course, Ohio State didn't do the things championship teams do against Oregon (Round 1) or against the cheaters, but Ohio State did the things championship teams do in the tournament. "Relying on the officials" wasn't one of the requirements.

As I said during that whole run, we did it DESPITE the officials.

You can make some people happy, all of the time.
You can make all people happy, some of the time.
You can make some people happy, none of the time.

Penn State fans are in that third group. They're talking about the schedule and how it could affect their chances at a national championship. One guy posts the schedule, then complains that they have 3 road games in October.
For those of you keeping track, there are 9 conference games. There will always be a 4/5 or 5/4 split on home/away. This year, Penn State has 4 home games. It's supposed to alternate, so it's just luck that this year is a 4/5 year. Usually, about the last week of September is a conference game, and then 4 weeks in October and 4 weeks in November are conference games. So, if you put 2 of those home games in October, and 2 in November, there's no home games for September. "OH NO!!! We start the conference schedule on the road again!!! Evil Big Ten!!!" So if you stick 1 home game in September, you get only 1 home game in either October or November.
Penn State fans demand that the Big Ten put the square peg in the round hole, and then cry when the Big Ten isn't able to do it.

Drew Allar is about to get his wish from the transfer portal after surprising Penn State by returning for 2025

usatsi_25098076.webp

Drew Allar surprised the Penn State Nittany Lions and the NFL when he announced his return to school after the 2024-25 season. The strong-armed, 6-foot-5, 235-pounder didn't exactly light the world on fire to end the year, but he did what he needed for the Nittany Lions to advance to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

There's no question that despite Allar posting three straight games with 13 or fewer completions and under 172 yards to end the season, he would've been a valued pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead, he bet on himself and Franklin for the Nittany Lions to make a push to win a National Championship.

One key to that quest is to improve the talent at wide receiver. The receiving corps failed to even garner a single reception against Notre Dame. Sharper throws would've helped, especially in avoiding a game-ending interception with 33 seconds left. Allen's misguided throw led the receiver too far, but he was also under pressure and heaving it.

The Nittany Lions lost Tyler Warren to the draft, further intensifying their need for pass catchers. The winter transfer window failed to bring a star, but the Nittany Lions are trending toward landing the top spring entrant in the portal.

Per On3, Syracuse's Trebor Pena is favored to land with Penn State.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder from Syracuse will be in Year 6 of his collegiate career in 2025. He was reportedly looking for $2 million in the portal, which is what prompted Syracuse head coach Fran Brown to say he's "not giving no wide receiver $2 million."

“We paid him enough. He was going to get paid more. There were some numbers that were asked to me that I didn’t feel I would be able to do and move on,” Brown said last week with local radio station WTLA-AM. “I treated him right, did everything that was needed, and I just said, ‘Yo, you got to go.'”...

Pena caught 84 passes for 941 yards and nine touchdowns in the Orange's pass-happy offense with Kyle McCord under center.

Just sayin': Do you really think Penn State is willing to pay $2M dollars to a "just a little better than average" WR (i.e. 84 passes, 941 yards, and 9 TDs)? Basically he was a 3 star recruit and had 1 good year (out of 5) at Syracuse:
