Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

If they ever do, he'll sure as shit call or text you. They always fuckin do. I have contacts in my phone whose last conversation was from 2016. The next time they text will be if Penn State ever wins. It never dawns on them that they didn't get return texts in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. They pick right up again as soon as the unthinkable happens. "WE ARE huh huh huh huh. What happened to your boys?".
Send them a picture of "the rail" and tell them we don't feel a need for such things for some reason ...

"The Rail" was supposed to signify the rise of a new rule, or something like that. I always thought that was weird. I infer from that (maybe incorrectly) that they considered Ohio State the previous "ruler" of the Big Ten, and Penn State was taking that from Ohio State.
Ohio State's previous Big Ten championship was 2002, and before that, 1998. Starting in 1993, Ohio State had a total of 4 conference championships to that point. Penn State had 1, the cheaters had 5, and I'm not going to count everyone else's. Nothing in that list of conference champions really screams that anyone was the "ruler". By Penn State winning that game, it was hardly "taking the crown" from Ohio State. (Those are my words - not theirs.)
But after that, Ohio State won outright championships in 2006, 2007, and 2009, and tied in 2005, 2008, and 2010. Ohio State also went undefeated in 2012, then won again in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
So... maybe it was a rise of a new rule. I just misinterpreted which team they were referring to.

This might be more cult behavior.
They're naming the field at Beaver Stadium. And, apparently the Paterno family and contributors didn't win the bidding war, because it IS NOT going to be named Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium. I'd report on what it will be named, but I don't care. And I doubt anyone else cares.
Mr. Joeauble reminds us that this is a slap in Joe Paterno's face.

So I was at the PSU game this year. Attended as a guest of a past player (79-83) who is the uncle of my new son in law. Great guy. As we are coming into Happy Valley and pulling up to the stadium the day before the game I ask him about his experience with JoePa. He tells me that next to his own father, Joe was one of the greatest influences in his life. Needless to say all of my other questions got shelved. He then informs me of his class of guys wanting to name the field the Joe Paterno field at Beaver Stadium. I stay silent.

After our wonderful victory I got a chance to meet and talk with some players from the 2011/12 class (Zordich, Mauti, Farrell). I can share with you that they wanted no part of that bullshit. They had the front row seat to the shit show and certainly have different opinions.

The cherry on top of it all was after the game we are back at the tailgate and I start chatting it up with some dude there. He tells me that he attended our game vs Oregon in Eugene. Attributed some of our success at PSU that day to the experience at Autzen (dealing with the noise). My host comes over and then introduces me to Jay Paterno. I forced down the bile in the back of my throat and grabbed another beer .....

If you're gonna tell a lie, don't include a conversation with a player who clearly died on the field for the sake of all Penn Staters.
