Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

From the Ped State perspective.

"Prato said it's unclear why other schools defied Paterno and his eastern conference."

Or. Maybe, just maybe they saw him for what he really was? A ruthless egomaniac determined to become the Winningest Coach in college football history.

Yep. They knew him best, and they ran away from him and his conference as fast as they could. As for what happened once they got into the Big East, the cult likes to blame it all on either Pitt or Syracuse. That's giving them way too much power as newly minted conference members to block a potential cash cow like ped aggy football. Far more likely, it was ALL of the former Eastern independents going in unison tho their new conference brethren and explaining in detail what a cancer and megalomaniac St. Joesus (hallowed be his rail) was and how his manipulations and machinations would tear the conference apart.

Or am I misinterpreting your metaphor?

Don't think any of them resemble William Holden.

Reminds me of that Jesus guy and the way the folks in his hometown, Galilee, treated him - his hometown, I tell you. And, Gaililee, that place was a dump, filled with grits, and jealous holier-than-thou bureaucrats too, just like State College.

I love the "uncover the truth" crap that they spew. It should be "uncover what we want you to uncover and report that or we'll go hide in our basements and keep our pee in jars and say nasty things about you on the internets, while we imagine what Kate Winslet's underpants smell like and try to remember how great it was in 1982 when our beloved Joesus was beating on Rutgers."

Google the term "Backfire Effect".

My favorite response:

I've been a PSU fan for over 40 years and never in my life did I think of Jerry Sandusky (or any assistant coach for that matter) as Jesus.
But apparently he has no problem with "I Am Who Am" Paterno.

Yo are viewing the academic side through Big Ten glasses. This is a damned strong conference academically. Top to bottom better than the B1G. Given the current state of the B1G in football I disagree with you about that as well.

Regarding academics -- they are all excellent institutions. But in terms of research and endowment, CIC leads both -- and leads research by a wide margin.
Even if I only take the top-10 from CIC, they lead by quite a bit. Minnesota finishes 10th with $420mil -- which is good for 6th in that group, edging out UCLA at $402mil plus USC, NC State, UT, and finally UVA at $224mil.

As for football, the overwhelming majority of that list are schools that are mediocre at best. Worse than that, the 2 power houses - USC and Texas - both disappear for long stretches at a time and are rarely excellent simultaneously (2005)
Even if we limit it to last couple years, Ohio State and Michigan State would dominate that conference same as they have B1G. The only good team currently is TAMU and I think they've been vastly over-rated. I'd go as far as to say that Nebraska or Wisconsin would finish above UT and USC, making 3 of the top-4 schools from the B1G.
After that you have a whole lot of teams on the same level as Iowa, Rutgers, Maryland, UW, UVA, NC St, UCLA, etc. I'll grant that they don't have dumpster fires like Purdue, Illinois, Indiana... but for an imaginary 10-team conference... that seems a pretty low standard.

Those mutants never cease to amaze me.

And yet another reason to let go of Penn State like a distant girlfriend... Reply
from years gone by.

Hope Franklin is forced by a firestorm to apologize for bringing this guy in to speak to the players. I don't give two bleeps about his stance on other issues if he thinks for one second Joe was all about the w's or x's and o's.

Funny how two weeks ago people on here were slamming had we hired Al Golden, but two weeks later we got a guy getting consistently outcoached and not doing his homework on a motivational speaker.

Joyner, O'Brien, Franklin, etc....not until the truth is uncovered will I trust a damn thing coming from that school.

So... Joe was never about the Ws... and that explains exactly why they're all obsessed with the number

It does keep some significant rivalries and rivalry games - UCLA - USC, UNC - Duke, and restores Texas and aTm - but think of the travel costs, especially in non-revenue sports. The Ads would have to do something akin to the way the baseball conducted itself prior to inner-league play, an East division and West Division championship to determine who plays in the Conference finals in all the nr sports..

409, the new 666.

Actually, 410 has become the recent rallying cry on BWI because they're going to "win the last one for Joe." All ties into their pathological need to create some mythical personal attachment and relationship between themselves and their godhead. You know like when the one lunatic suggested digging him up and taking the corpse to Joshua Tree.

I think the number actually is 666 if you add in all the games that were stolen by the refs.
