Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

They want to be a medium fish in a small fish pond so they look bigger than they really are without having to actually do big fish things.
Pining for the good ol' days after getting their asses kicked in the Big Ten- on a subconscious level, of course. They haven't accomplished anything in twenty years because of various conspiracies, not because they are now a medium fish in a B1G (har har) pond.

My understanding is that Penn State was blackballed by Syracuse the second time around. Schwarzwalder, the long time Syracuse coach, and Rip Engle, Joesus's predecessor and the man who actually created Penn State as a football power, had an intense rivalry, but I don't think it was one that would have led to blackballing. Joesus must have brought an extra added dimension to the battle.

I didn't know there was football - at Penn State or otherwise - before Joesus. Or are you referring to soccer?

"Yea, and He reached down with His hand and He grabbed the ball. And the other players gasped with awe and wondered how one could grab the ball, if he is not the goalie. And He spoke unto them, and they trembled with fear, for light was flowing from His eyes and He said: "Fear not! For I bring unto you great joy. Our troubles will soon be at an end. We will soon come to a valley where we can all be happy, and there will be instant replay reviews from above, and I shall create a conference where I can hand-pick our referees, and we won't need to travel out-of-state to play in bowl games. 409 will be Mine by the end of the 1980's, and you will all be favored by Me and we will never ruin a weekend. Now let Us pray: Beat Nebraska!"

- Joesus, Chapter 4, verse 09.
And the people, who had not known the taste of victory, found great satisfaction in Engle's sixteen seasons. He was much admired for his 104–48–4 record and a .679 winning percentage and the people did rejoice and did eat the mushrooms that he had brought to them from the desert and which did bring them visions of promised glory. But when the crowd gathered round him and loud hosannas did ring in the air he was made to beseech them, "There comes after me one whose cleats I am not worthy to touch and he shall baptize you with the fire of 409 and though he poopeth in his pants and surround himself with coaches and toadies of weak character thou shalt not find fault."

I have to admit: I barely believed cincibuck's story about Rip Engle. There was a Penn State before Joesus?!? Sure enough, Wikipedia acknowledges this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rip_Engle

Of course, of the three paragraphs under the heading "coaching career", the largest paragraph (and only one longer than 1 sentence) is mostly about Joe Paterno.

Unfortunately I had the displeasure of meeting the senile old pedoenabler when they dedicated the field in the town, where I also had the displeasure of growing up in, to Engle.

The latest outrage on BWI: PSU/Franklin brought in a motivational speaker to address the football team. The speaker then slurred the Saintly Joesus by saying that Joesus believed his role was to teach the "x's" and "o's" of the game rather than life values. Naturally, The Cult is going ballistic. Posters are wondering if speaker Joe Ehrmann ever heard of "the Grand Experiment" or the "Paterno Way."

Other posters frothing at the mouth that Franklin should pack his bags right now or be made to apologize for allowing someone to slander Joesus' name in front of the football team.

How long until Franklin gets fed up with their lunatic fanbase and bolts for something better? He's been doing his very best to pander to the cult, and they're already turning on him 6 games in. O'Brien always had an eye for the NFL, but his statements before leaving indicate he was beyond fed up with the fanbase after just two seasons. The ghost of Dear Leader, and the cults never ending worship of it, is going to prevent that program from ever moving on and becoming a solid program on it's own merits.

And yet another reason to let go of Penn State like a distant girlfriend... Reply
from years gone by.

Hope Franklin is forced by a firestorm to apologize for bringing this guy in to speak to the players. I don't give two bleeps about his stance on other issues if he thinks for one second Joe was all about the w's or x's and o's.

Funny how two weeks ago people on here were slamming had we hired Al Golden, but two weeks later we got a guy getting consistently outcoached and not doing his homework on a motivational speaker.

Joyner, O'Brien, Franklin, etc....not until the truth is uncovered will I trust a damn thing coming from that school.

Those mutants never cease to amaze me.
