Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/2976...t-ncaa-penn-state-situation.html#.VA43m5Ug9Ms

There was an interesting contrast on social media Monday. Countless folks were reacting to the Baltimore Ravens’ releasing of Ray Rice by ripping the NFL for its lax punishment of a perpetrator of domestic violence. At the same time, news was spreading of the NCAA’s walk-back on Penn State, and the reaction was mostly positive.

You know what I am? Sad. For the victims of Sandusky, some of whom must feel forgotten all over again.

Well you know the old adage...

I was thinking about this as well earlier. More from the standpoint that the NFL looks really bad right now with the release of this tape and the fact that they may have known and didn't make the right decision to begin with. Now when the NCAA did right initially they are now regressing and relenting on a proper course of punishment. As a society we should be outraged by both situations.

I've got to ask--what exactly (what tangible thing) has PSU done to show such commitment and to achieve such progress that would warrant reducing the sanctions by 50%?

To be fair, they have done quite a bit -- which is why the Paterno cult is foaming at the mouth angry with their Board of Trustees.
That said, pretty ridiculous -- especially when the alum are still out in force trying to villainize the victims "or whatever you call them". All signs suggest to me that there is still a deep-rooted culture problem.

My God I fucking hate em! I never much paid attention to those idiots over there but they are out in force all over the internet and they really are morally fucking bankrupt. Point them out to ISIS please and say have at em.

It's a sad day when the morally bankrupt are praised (at least initially) for doing what needed to be done originally (Ray Rice) or rewarded for bitching, moaning, kicking, screaming and denying the entire episode even occurred when it comes to the Pedsters.

I'm 34, I've loved football all my life and have been an Ohio State fan as far back as I can remember. This off-season, what with the strife and turmoil about "getting paid", the O'Bannon lawsuit which exposed how both sides of the issue are so hypocritical in their views and the plague of stupid decisions and outright moral bankruptcy on the part of the NFL and NCAA, are making me question why I even bother anymore.

What's more important - missing some worthless bowl games or the sanctity and innocence of some troubled adolescents? Apparently to the NCAA and George Mitchell, the worthless bowl games and scholarships.

Can we just all say this together? In Penn State's case, football doesn't matter. It shouldn't anyway.

Those men who were sexually assaulted as children are more important than football. The punishments placed not only on Sandusky, but also on the school were meant to send that message.

It was a good message. A just message. And the NCAA just cut it in half.

The fact that they put the word VICTIMS in quotes should get them the death penalty as far as I am concerned.
