They would have had my IP address through my posting as tugspeedwell on BWI. So, they would have known who my provider was and the general region that I was posting from. To get any specific identification from the provider, though, would have required a court order. This guy says he tracked me down in a couple of days. Just another BWI blowhard trying to impress the cult. Anyone here or on the shag knows the primary industry that I'm involved in and where I live, so what's to really discover.

What's really funny is that I have his real name from the rally b.s. A quick google brought me to his linkedin profile, and I know where he lives and for whom he works. He works for a very media-shy, image conscious corporation, so I don't think he really wants to get dragged into the spotlight for having tracked somebody down via the internet and begun harassing them. I'm sure it's his childish little fantasy that my boss is a Penn State grad who would fire me, but I'm sorry to disappoint them. The ORD is a self-contained unit. While I have some investors in one venture that I manage and am the investor in a couple of others, I have no boss, no corporation to worry about and virtually no internet footprint outside of ORD_Buckeye.

I'm not worried, and besides, you know they would have had a massive thread identifying me if this was true.

The part that really amazes me is that, to the best of my knowledge, not a single one of them has ventured over here and discovered even the basic info you just provided! After the rally set-up (A true masterpiece by the way) the story was out on forums from every school in the country. Being a Shag lurker, I know how much fun THEY had with it.
I don't think the cult is even aware that BP exists. All they ever talk about is Hineygate. As we were all laughing at them, and applauding you ORD, they were so wrapped up in their little cocoon that they couldn't figure out what was going on.

Now, I'm sure somebody with high level internet security sophistication, some large corporate or govt institutional access and some connections could probably retrieve my personal info, but I doubt a bank employee in Jacksonville meets that criteria. All of what you said is true, and again I'll add that he didn't even seem to remember the name of your account over there, yet he claimed to know your identity.

I assume BP has the IP itself... forums I've modded in the past have always provided IPs and the ability to IP ban ?
There's also the email you used to register (though as you said previously, it's clean and unaffiliated with anything else)
But the IP -- unless you're over a VPN -- is a means to directly attack your computer, or at least the default gateway -- depending on whether your ISP issues 1 IP for the router and runs a private network behind it or if they issue IPs on the public network to all devices that connect to your router. Windows is notoriously weak, and router firmware isn't much better (especially as the login info is usually default for home users)

Again, this is all hypothetical... I like metagames =) ... and the scenarios I'm discussing generally require multiple people with sophisticated backgrounds and expertise. Even the stuff done by Anon all involved a team of people (beyond lame denial of service stuff... which isn't really "hacking")

Well, at least this nit who thinks he cracked the code figured out it was a Buckeye fan. Just a few weeks ago, they were certain it was a "pitt troll."

I love that excuse. "We could have been better, but our priorities were different from that." I've heard the same thing about Bo Schembechler: "He wasn't so interested in WINNING the Rose Bowl - just getting there."
