At most, they will restore scholarships and lift the bowl ban voluntarily. I think it will take a judgment against them in court to eliminate the $60MM fine and restore the wins. The Paternos et al. will not accept a partial settlement, so expect that case to proceed.

I bet that the Paternos will accept a partial settlement if it includes the wins. Its the wins or nothing. Hell, I bet they'd pay another $60 million, making it $120 million total, and lose all scholarships for 20 years if it means getting their wins back.
You had to figure this was coming. The NCAA is barely hanging on by a thread. They may be cash challenged to fight the onslaught of legal battles. Whatever happens it will never change the fact that the 4 most senior men at Ped State sat on information involving a pedophile for 12 years.

Apologize and say that there was no 'football culture' at PSU and in fact PSU had and continues to have one of the best athletic/academic programs in all of the NCAA and that they have been a great example of turning out not only scholar athletes but also excellent citizens with good leadership.

Colt 21 - you are absolutely right. If Joe did not do exactly what he did this would have been much worse.
I will go 1 step further, Joe being who he was had to do the legal thing. If Joe had done more, Joe would have been a vigilante and even if there was physical evidence against Sandusky (which by the way there is none), Sandusky would have walked.
Lundy you are right Joe did call Curley on Saturday. I don't have the quote, but Joe met with Curley early Sunday morning, as it makes no sense Joe called him at 5.
When I failed on the football field, I can tell you around when it happened. When my son died I can tell you the year, the month and the day. When this happened to Mike, Mike not only had the season and month wrong, but he had the year wrong. When the investigators contacts Mike, he did not get back to them for days, because allegedly he thought it was over his phone messages and the Sandusky incident was ancient history.
This incident IMO was also insignificant to Joe and IMO Scott believed Mike and tried to refresh Joe's memory and Joe did his best to support Mike, but it is clear he missed a lot of facts in his recall.
IMO Schultz and Curley followed up with Mike and did not find his testimony to be a crime (based on the 1998 incident), yet they did tell CYS and 2nd Mile, who could have made it clear to Sandusky not to take kids beyond the borders of the program, but they did not. The people at these organizations are experts at spotting pedophiles and there may have been reports of Sandusky crossing boundaries(which they overlooked), but nothing to alert them that Sandusky was having sex with a child.

I believe this was it, that Joe knew he had the power to make something happen and he blew it. He didn't ask the questions he should have asked, and neither, so far as I can tell, did anyone else at Penn State. Because it was illegal for Joe to ask. By Penn State's rules and I think by state law at the time. These investigations are supposed to be very private because a false accusation can ruin a person and perhaps get them killed (the same being potentially true for the accuser).
In general too, in an open investigation, you know what the police will tell you if you ask???

Nada, zip, nothing. I'm a civic leader where I live--and we had a murder not far from my house. The most we get from our police liaison: "It's an open investigation and I can't comment on it.". That's it.
And we do know that Joe *did* ask MM later if he was ok with how things were handled.

So notifying the actual law enforcement authorities vice pushing it up the administrative chain is being a vigilante?Joe would have been a vigilante

They have already determined that they will go undefeated and win the national championship (they also have determined that the postseason ban will be dropped).A casual look at BWI shows almost no threads on PSU's fall practice. There's off topic, pro sports and everyone's favorite discussion items - BOT, NCAA sanctions, legal actions and how Joe deserves to get the wins back but if you were interested in knowing what PSU was going to do this fall, BWI would not be the place to go.

This is correct. Joe wasnt some charles bronson/steven segal type vigilante. He was a man of flesh and blood and he knew the law because he was gonna be a lawyer someday before coaching. Teh cops woulda locked Joe up if he had reported jerry on false charges because nothing even happned that night in the shower, and nothing happened to any of these supposaid "victims". This was one big cash grab by Appalachian trailer trash and psu leadership fell for it hook line and sinker. The Paterno family is the real victim. Phil Knight said so himself.

Every time the guy posts, he has to be thinking, "How the F*** do these dipshits not realize I am trolling them? How full on retarded do I have to take this motherf***er????"I like to think he stands up and does a little "boom--mike drop" act after hitting the send button.
