Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

https://bwi.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=36&tid=173627131&mid=173627131&sid=890&style=2

Starts with some boring story about a guy no one cares about, and how he handled his issue the right way.
Then he compares it to the way Joesus handled his situation (saying he did it right, of course).

Then there's this paragraph:

(I did not add the bold)
So he makes sure to emphasize the part that I guess gets left out by people like me, then he changes the rest of the sentence ("I wish I had done more"). (He also forgets "Beat Nebraska!")

Next paragraph:

So then you get this dude who tries to talk some reason:

Report sex crimes, get fired from the university YOU practically run. Great logic.

No matter what happens. No matter what compromises must be made. No matter what sacrifices must be endured. No matter what weekends must be left unruined. No matter what "victims" might be penetrated.

BEAT NEBRASKA! Always, BEAT NEBRASKA!

It is "the humane thing to do"*

*actual quote from the e-mails rationalizing why they didn't turn Sandusky over to the police.

With the benefit of hindsight, I would have done things differently.

They list games that they want to see on BTN. Surprisingly few games against Big Ten teams are picked. ("Surprisingly" was supposed to be with sarcasm font.) In fact, this guy even admits to not wanting to watch any of the games against Big Ten teams:

from 1967-1992 ... no conference games, please

So the Big Ten Network should show games of a Big Ten team from before they were in the Big Ten?

Also, there are a handful of conference games that I can think of that Penn State fans should be really interested in re-watching. 2005 against Ohio State, 2008 against Ohio State. Of course, 2013 comedy game against Michigan is shown pretty often. Wasn't their game against Florida State after the 2005 season somewhat interesting? So my point is that BWI is funny.

Yes, the greatest win ever against an 8-5 FSU team that did everything they could to give the game away. It was a classic and Joesus greatest moment as a coach.

I don't remember the game. I checked it out on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Orange_Bowl

You can tell this part was writtten by a member of the cult:

On 2nd and 9 on the 12 yard line, Kelly hit a 29-yard field goal to give Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions the win over Bobby Bowden and the Seminoles.

I can't remember one game where it was "Woody Hayes and the Buckeyes beat Bo Schembechler and the Wolverines".

Sacrilege!

In fairness, I ought to quote his entire post:

First off, I don't remember asking for you "your thoughts" when I responded. Was your entire goal to just start an argument?
Tennessee comes in #11, behind Yale, Harvard and Penn. (Bet you're wishing you said "FBS only" at some point in time, too late!) So let's throw the # wins argument out the window. I still think LSU is a better choice than Tennessee. LSU plays in the tougher SEC division.
As for aTm... Racking up a bunch of wins over a long time doesn't equal "success". Pitt has 691 wins... enough said.

And now, isolating my favorite part of the post:
Racking up a bunch of wins over a long time doesn't equal "success".
Beautiful.

"Winning a bunch of games for a long time" - that got me thinking. How does Paterno match up with other coaches, based on winning percentage?
Not wanting to do a lot of work, I compared him only to Woody Hayes. And only on his time with Ohio State.
All-time winning percentage at Ohio State - Woody Hayes has a 0.743 percentage.
All-time winning percentage at Penn State - Joe Paterno has a 0.746 percentage.

In-conference games:
Woody Hayes vs. Big Ten opponents: 0.776.
Joe Paterno vs. Big Ten opponents: 0.638.

In fairness to Paterno, Woody's numbers are probably skewed because he never had to play against Ohio State.
