Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

We have been picking up new clients right and left the past 8 months, so I have met many new people. So far only three have been from that school in Slappy Valley. Of those three, two decided to try and engage me in football talk once they heard I went to Ohio State. Neither conversation went very far when they started trying to compare punishments and I stopped them in their tracks to tell them that I would not talk about the NCAA and the sanctions received by the schools as they didn't compare in the least. Both looked at me with jaws agape like my hair was on fire (and I am bald). I don't think I will be talking college football come fall with these people.

I often find myself in PA for projects and everything that has been said about the PSU faction in the workplace is spot on. They appear normal but as soon as conversation turns to PSU & JoePed a they loose all rationality and common sense. Almost every one of them feels that JoePed was robbed by Freeh and the NCAA and he didn't get "due process".

Yes dem, and we had that discussion. We both agreed that even if the onlyReply

thing they did was simply shower together, it was inappropriate given the time and lack of anyone else in the building.

However, I told her that, beyond a reasonable doubt, Sandusky is a pedophile. However, the evidence doesn't support that he is a "forcibly anal rape children" type pedophile. Either way, whatever type of pedophile he is, he deserves to be in jail... period.

I love they way they talk about "educating" others about what happened. It goes something like this. Ped enabler alum has a conversation with a normal person. The conversation turns to college football. Then it shifts to the events in the shower. Crazy talk ensues. Normal person's eyes glass over. Normal person walks away shaking head. EDUCATION COMPLETE!!!!!

They honestly believe that people have just been brainwashed by the media and all they need is a simple explanation from one of them and instantly the general public will then be on their side.

As soon as you start asking questions like "Why would Joe Paterno hear a story about a person fooling around with a kid in a shower and then never wonder why nothing happened to that person?", that's when they decide that you're unable to be educated and you're part of the problem. Don't even get into the whole never going to the cops thing, unless you want to hear about how the VP of Finance is somehow a cop.

Or how about when you tell them that Paterno had no right to "due process" because he wasn't in a courtroom. It was an administrative action of his employer and the governing body of the industry in which he worked; there was no expectation, much less formal right, to any kind of legal due process.

All of their arguments collapse so easily; it's just that they can't see it in that echo-chamber of the soul they live in.
