IgnoreWhy so critical?Reply I've learned a few things over the years. I never would have guessed a former wrestler would become Governor of Minnesota or a bodybuilder Governor of California.
If someone would've said one day Joe Paterno will get fired, I, too, would've said, "Zero, nada, nadir, naught, zada, zilch, or zot chance of THAT happening." Yet, it did!
Last I checked, I have as much a right to run as anyone. Who are you (or anyone) to advise someone not to run for the Penn State BOT after these past 18 months? Really.
The very last thing we all need is for anyone to decide it is NOT in their best interests to try to make Penn State a better place. Heck, even the Country of Iceland is going through a political revolution and who knows exactly how that will end. If history has taught us anything, it will be someone no one expected to lead them out of that political mess.
Let me worry about Michael. But, allow me to offer you some advice. Why is it that in Penn States most crucial hour, alums still don't vote. That's where I think you should spend more of your thoughts - how to get people INVOLVED! Telling people (like me) to pursue a different path is not the answer. That's the LAST thing you should be doing.
What's wrong with you?!?

IgnoreIt was called Happy ValleyReplyfor a reason. If it ain't broke don't fix it was probably the prevailing sentiment until the shit storm. Most likely Spanier did most of the heavy lifting and the BOT primarily as OP said spent their time gland handing, patting each other on the back, exchanging business cards and ensuring that they were all reelected and the "circle of trust" remained unbroken. It would be interesting to compare some of their personal net worths before and after election to the BOT. Any intant millionaires like in DC? None of them were prepared for crisis management, litigation or media management. Anyone ever read the management training book "Who moved the cheese"? This is a textbook case to the nth degree.

Re: O'Brien on sanctions....just posted on ESPN
He says that he believes the program is being run in the right way, and that it's headed in the right direction. Well sorry, but I hate to break it to him but the program has ALWAYS been run in the right way and it has NEVER been headed in the wrong direction.
Very true. Ever since his meeting with the BOT last week, the die hard cultists have been ready to tar and feather him. He really is doing a balancing act between trying to run a program and keep the mutants at bay. Just seems like for most of the last year he has managed to stay away from the whole mess, but now he seems to be diving right in.ORD_Buckeye;2354658; said:Keeping his mouth shut would be the right thing to do, but I'm not too shocked by that quote. He's a competitive guy, and I'm sure that he's chomping at the bit to compete without one arm tied behind his back. Remember, Ped Aggy told him the sanctions would be much, much less severe, so I can't imagine the frustration of stepping into that mess and then having the rug pulled out from under him.
It's not like he's a full-blown mouthpiece for the Paterno cult and hanging around with Lubrano et al. Hell, he managed to [censored] off the cult.
