When I was a child growing up, I was fascinated by WWII. From a certain perspective, it was a classic battle of the forces of good versus the forces of evil. In fact, you see that in George Lucas's Star Wars. But, WWII was real. It really happened.
Germans are highly intelligent. IIRC, prior to WWII, Germany had the most Nobel Prizes. So, how did this happen?
Well, I developed the (soon to be famous) Theory of Thirds when I was 15.
The Theory of Thirds is quite simple really. Actually, truth usually is simple.
I proposed that Germany had 1/3 of her people rooted in hate: Hatred toward France and England following WWI; Hatred to the Jews; Hatred for being marginalized. Then, I realized that Germany had 1/3 of her people 180 degrees the opposite: Those who yearned for peace; Those with compassion; Those true intellectuals and Nobel Prize winners.
The "other" 1/3 were the vacillators: Those who stood for nothing. These people simply side with whoever they are around and go with the flow. And, I personally loath these people.
So what happened to Germany? Well, those 1/3 filled with hatred seized power - hence, the Brown Shirts. The 1/3 "vacillators sided, inevitably, with the 1/3 that seized power.
Now, you only had 1/3 of Germany to fight 2/3 that had all the military might and power. The result was the darkest period of human history. IIRC, current estimates are that 70 million people lost their lives in WWII. And, that doesn't account for the children forced into adoption b/c their parents died; Rape; and, disease.
So, why do I bring this up? I bring this up b/c of your advice, which I do appreciate, btw.
You see, 1/3 of people here (i.e., Penn Staters) will fight me regardless. They are closed-minded and very little will sway them. Their minds are already made up. They are in this for themselves and their self interests.
Then, there are the 1/3 who really do want what is best for Penn State. Many in this group have kids. And, they truly want to do good for their kids, but they lack the wherewithal to do it. They want people in power to make the right decisions.
Then, there are the 1/3 who will vote for whoever PS4RS tells them to vote for and whoever the Paterno family tells them to vote for. The vacillators.
I respectfully refuse to follow your advice. I'm not worried one iota about the 1/3 that will sling mud and oppose me every chance they get. I am concerned about the other 2/3. And, those 2/3 don't know me. Only 1% of them know me as Mack Daddy. Some fictional character I devised to keep people entertained. He doesn't exist.
So, there isn't any way for an unknown commodity like myself to explain my "vision" for Penn State without coming out now. Two months before the election will be too late, IMO. I'm a "walk-on".
And, let's be candid. We are talking about the Penn State BOT not Senator of the United States. Then, you would be spot-on correct. A Penn State BOT doesn't have the power to levy taxes of wage war like a US Senator does.
By April, 2014, I want the following people to know me and back my candidacy:
1) The Paterno family. I am 100% convinced that once Sue Paterno and family understand who I am and my vision for Penn State they will support me. Why? Because I know Joe Paterno. And, Joe would support me.
2) The Lettermen. As I write, they wouldn't pay me any notice. But, once they see my videos and hear my vision, they will eventually want to meet me. And, I am convinced they will support me.
3) PS4RS. I still don't understand this group b/c I haven't really spoke to them. They do have enormous power that concerns me. And, I know that 1/3 will vote the EXACT way they suggest. I don't know if they will support me. Nor, do I know if they have "ulterior" motives. I know where they stand on the sanctions. But, what about the "real" issues plaguing Penn State?
4) The Alums. None of which really know me. For such a large group, very few vote. How can I expect to "reach" them a mere few months before the election.
I am going to win as Michael Felli or I am going to lose as Michael Felli. I will let the people decide. By election time they will know me better than any of the other candidates. That is exactly what I want. And, I am comfortable with that. In fact, that is the reason I think they will vote for me.
