Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the sanctions more due to the fact that Joe never had any real oversight, and was allowed to more or less run roughshod over the entire university for years? That he serve as a one-man compliance department and insisted that football players be punished within the football program and not by the same guide used for other, non-football playing students?

Edit - also seems likely that the perjury trials against the three stooges should be settled before this case is heard. Wouldn't the outcome of those trials bear more than a little bit of weight in this case?

Exactly! That was the dysfunctional football culture that Emmert was talking about. There was absolutely no university oversight or control of Paterno and his program to the point that he self-exempted the athletic department from following federal law (Clery Act), instructed his nominal superiors to cover up and not report child rape that was occurring in his facilities and ordered the firing of a university vice-president who dared merely question his power and self-governance. The situation at Ped Aggy under Paterno--from the standpoint of institutional control--was arguably far worse than the slush fund that board of trustees at SMU maintained to pay players.

It had nothing to do with what percent of PSU football players were or were not getting their Parks & Rec degrees.

Let's try it this way:

"Pedsters.....hint.....any time the word COVER UP is used in tandem with your school....that is called a lack of institutional control. Your zombie head coach knew about some shiat, and obviously covered it up and let it go. Now, I know this won't be hard for you to understand, but Joe Pa wasn't in charge of the entire damn school."

Idiots. They don't even realize that Emmert did them a favor by hitting them hard so fast. If the NCAA starts digging into stuff there (and gets the hamstringing we all know will happen), then they'll have no choice but to sanction them further, or better yet, kick them out of the NCAA (my 2013 Christmas present).

EDIT: The new attorney general has stones (for a lady). The last time someone tried to investigate the school, they disappeared...forever.

Didn't Penn State agree not to challenge the sanctions when the NCAA handed them down, in exchange for not receiving the Death Penalty?

In light of the proposed lawsuit, I'd hope the NCAA thinks about the Death Penalty, even though Penn State isn't involved. It seems like those around the school will never learn.

Either Death Penalty or open up another investigation of the school (a bigger one).

Oh and hey look, the pulled out the race card with the plantation managers comment.

I'd love for the discovery process to be hung up by evidence that is being used against the 3 up for trial, and when that evidence is available, the NCAA wins the lawsuit, disassociates Ped State and the Big Ten rightfully and finally kicks their sorry asses to the curb.

Any lawyers out there want to answer to what degree this will give the ncaa subpoena power over Penn State during the discovery process? I'm curious as to whether this will all backfire horribly on the Pedsters.

Considering the new PSU compliance office basically is the NCAA for the next several years...yeah, they have to be very careful, because they have a lot of the power they need already.

Well, just ask the question, I guess....

Ask a Laywer
Question about the Penn State Scandal and the reprocussions of the upcoming lawsuit by the state

Asked 1 minute ago - Omaha, NE

If the state of Pennysylvania goes ahead with this lawsuit to attempt to have the NCAA forcibly overturn their decision, what would be the ramifications for the school if the State lost their case?

I am hoping beyond hope that this happens:

Buttchin to the NFL?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien is a favorite of chairman Jeffrey Lurie to fill the Eagles? head coaching vacancy reports indicate.

David Jones of Penn Live said that Lurie is "very intrigued" by O'Brien, and 94WIP?s Howard Eskin said that O'Brien is a favorite to land the job.

O?Brien led the Nittany Lions to a surprising 8-4 record in 2012, leading a successful campaign in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

Several reports have indicated that O'Brien's contract has a buyout clause, that could cost an NFL team between $9 million and $18 million to hire O'Brien away.

If this happened, there would be a civil war in the state of Ped-sylvania.

Anyone know if Corbett is an Eagles fan? Maybe he's trying to create this giant shitstorm so Billy O'Buttchin has a perfectly good excuse to run away from Slappy Valley...... and right into the waiting arms of Jeffrey Lurie......

Either that, or Corbett is up for re-election and figures that the good people of PA would certainly vote him back if he publicly throws some shit at the NCAA. If he dyes his hair black and starts wearing coke-bottle glasses and black sneakers......

Not only is he up for re-election, but he KNOWS he's getting re-elected:

What the Eff Ever, dude...

"There?s been a tradition since [former Gov.] Milton Shapp" of governors serving two terms, "and I have no plans to break that tradition," Corbett said during a news conference at a state Department of Transportation garage in Harrisburg. "This is not a formal announcement, but I have no plans to break that tradition."

It's not a guarantee. Corbett's poll numbers have been upside down for most of the past year, sometimes net negative by more than 10 points.

A Public Policy Polling memo, flagged by Early Returns, lists Corbett - among "Folks in a whole lot of trouble"...

This is his 'Big Joker' for Re-Election - fight the big, bad NCAA.

If O'Buttchin turns out to have just been playing the cult, mouthing platitudes to loyalty only when it suited his needs and then turns around and works them like a plastic fuck doll leaving the cult soiled and deflated..............
