Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Interesting quote for a few months ago:

"The appalling actions of a few people have brought us once again into the national spotlight. We have taken a monster off the streets and while we will never be able to repair the injury done to these children, we must repair the damage to this university. Part of that corrective process is to accept the serious penalties imposed today by the NCAA on Penn State University and its football program. However, as governor, I am grateful that the NCAA did not impose the 'death penalty,' which would have also had a severe detrimental impact on the citizens of State College, Centre County and the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I also want assurance from Penn State that no taxpayer dollars will be used to pay the $60 million fine imposed on the university today."

"Penn State is more than football - it is a world-class university, providing an outstanding education to our young people in a variety of areas from scientific research and engineering, to the arts and humanities. I am confident that the university will move forward from this experience, complete the healing process and once again be worthy of its great reputation."

Tom Corbett
Governor of Pennsylvania
July 22nd, 2012

Hmm...why would the governor state that 'No taxpayer dollers' would be used for the fine, then turn around and attempt to sue the NCAA? Maybe because the school can't pay the freaking $60 millie like they thought?

I am hoping beyond hope that this happens:

If this happened, there would be a civil war in the state of Ped-sylvania.
I'm setting aside some money for new Eagles gear right now...just in case.

And no, I'm not an Eagles fan, but if they throw the cult into full blown melt down by taking Beerbelly O'Butterknife I will certainly be rooting for them next year.

LOL @ PAGE 8.....

Moreover, Penn State achieved its football success without
compromising the academic performance of its football players. Penn State's football program perennially boasts one of the highest graduation rates among Division I football programs. Up until the revelation of the sexual abuse scandal that rocked the campus in November 2011, Penn State football's reputation for "success
with honor" made it the envy of its peers.

The envy of it's peers?!? Um....we've been a member of the B1G for a couple seasons now, and as far as I can tell, we've never been jealous of Penn State.....

You tOSU guys not telling me something?

LOL even more @ page 15:

In November 2011, the indictment of a despicable child predator, a former long-time assistant coach of the Penn State football team, provided Dr. Emmert with the opportunity he needed to signal emphatically that the NCAA his NCAA would never again be regarded as soft on disciplining its member institutions, particularly those institutions with elite football programs that Dr. Emmert and the NCAA had been criticized for failing to discipline adequately until that time.

What, do they think that NOT saying Sandusky's name will make people forget that he was Joe Pa's hand picked successor until they found him out?

LOL @ the entire document....

Nowhere in the entire lawsuit do they mention their Zombie Head coach by name.

No where....:roll2:

Then, there's this too:

73. The NCAA sanctions against Penn State threaten severe and
irreparable harm to each of these markets through the removal of a major competitor.
Rarely, if ever, in the history of college sports has the NCAA imposed sanctions as
severe as those forced on Penn State. The handful of situations that most closely
resemble the Penn State sanctions, however, suggest that the sanctions are likely to
have the following irreparable damaging effects on Penn State:

(a) A decline in the success of the football team during the fouryera
period in which the sanctions are imposed, as a direct result of the
reduction in the number of available scholarships, the inability of Penn State
to promise high school recruits that they will have the oppotrunity to
compete for a national championship, and the ability of existing Penn State
players to transfer to other schools without penalty or to leave the Penn State
football team without losing their athletic scholarships.

Dear Ped State alumni,
The NCAA is a private club of which you , as a member, have agreed to abide by all the rules and decisions. Failing that, you can go play ball elsewhere. (But just see who will want to play with a non-sanctioned school)
Or
As Dr. Phil might say:
"How's that gonna work for ya?" :tongue2:

The NCAA hammer is still out there.
As is the FBI.
As is the Dept. of Ed. Clery Act compliance.

Penn State was forced to sign away its procedural rights, including an
investigation of the charges against it, factual findings that NCAA rules were
violated, a hearing before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, and an appeal of
any adverse ruling.

No, they were not forced. They didn't have the guts to fight for these procedural rights when being faced with a potential death penalty, so they traded for a mitigated punishment.

Exactly. They were (probably correctly) afraid of what a full blown NCAA investigation would uncover. So instead, they agree to reduced charges in exchange for their word not to challenge the sanctions. So, predictably, they get the governor who (surprise!) is a member of their board of trustees, to run an end-around on the NCAA. God, I hope the NCAA uses this an excuse to carpet bomb that clown college with an even longer death penalty than was being considered this past summer.

I want to see Penn State carpet bombed with subpoenas rather than just carpet bombed.

The state is arguing that that they have a duty to protect the interests of taxpayers that help to fund the university, yet they have established and maintained a system of governance that allows the university to shield itself from public oversight by being able to conceal its own records. I hope that conflict is brought up early and often in this case, and that if Penn State is going to be afforded the protections of a public institution that they should also be subjected to scrutiny of their records like one too.
