Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I think it's funny they slam Iowa as a place that has nothing to do. Do these fucktards ever realize that Slappy Valley is literally in the middle of the set for Deliverance?

No. They somehow think their small town in the middle of 300 miles of farm fields in Pennsylbama is the bastion of culture and refinement to the entire Western world.

It?s not like Penn State linebacker Michael Mauti died. He?s not fighting a battle with leukemia like Chuck Pagano. He?s not Adam Taliaferro after suffering a paralyzing spinal cord injury. He wasn?t bunked up in a hospital bed somewhere after a devastating accident. He didn?t sacrifice himself for his country in battle. He was one hell of a college linebacker and a consummate team leader, and it's horrible that he suffered another knee injury and it stinks that he couldn't play in his home finale, but that happens in football - ask Matt Barkley about how much fun it was to watch the Notre Dame game from the sidelines. Mauti can rehab and come back to play in the pros, and one other thing ... HE WAS ON THE SIDELINES. If any of the players wanted to honor him, they could?ve just jogged on by for a fist bump.

Seriously, has any team been more self-congratulatory than the 2012 Penn State Nittany Lions?

After all the “We Are … Pissed Off” garbage and all the other bluster, and rallies, and t-shirts, and slogans, and tears, and the fawning from the fan base, and sucking up from the media – headlined on Saturday by an embarrassing performance from ESPN analyst and newly-anointed Nittany Lion lickspittle, Brock Huard - the 2012 team missed out on a free trip, a bunch of gift cards and prizes, and a 31-13 Outback Bowl loss to South Carolina. Whoop-dee-doo.

cont'd...

I know it isn't Thanksgiving anymore, but I am thankful for BWI.

The thread is about the hypothetical placement of Penn State in a bowl game, should they be eligible to be in a bowl game this year.

Re: Hypothetical "What if" question about PSU's bowl game this year ifReply If PSU wasn't on probation, they would have finished with a different record. Take the first two games; does anyone think PSU loses those games at "full strength" and with no emotional distraction? That puts PSU at 10-2. Now to the OSU and Nebraska "losses"... in addition to not losing any players and not having any distractions, they wouldn't have gotten any of the unofficial sanctions by the referines that contributed to close losses in those games. (11-1, 12-0) PSU very likely could be headed to Indy this weekend.

Not a big stretch. They've been commemorating Joe's imaginary national championships for years on that wall.

I'm telling you, Penn State was Boise State before Boise State was Boise State- only people were smart enough to totally ignore their success against pathetic independent schedules back in the day.

Hell, they played exactly two ranked teams in the regular season during their undefeated '68, '69 and '73 seasons... combined. COMBINED.

They played no ranked teams in '68, #17 West Virginia in '69 and #20 Pitt in '73.

That's. It.

They also played #6 Kansas, #6 Missouri, and #13 LSU in bowl games but that doesn't really count since they didn't have a choice in the matter.

For comparison, Ohio State defeated #1 Purdue, #2 Southern Cal, #4 Michigan and #16 Michigan State in '68 and Texas beat #2 Arkansas, #8 Oklahoma and #9 Notre Dame in '69.

1968
Navy (2-8)
Kansas State (4-6)
@ West Virginia (7-3)
@ UCLA (3-7)
@ Boston College (6-3)
Army (7-3)
Miami (FL) (5-5)
@ Maryland (2-8)
@ Pitt (1-9)
Syracuse (6-4)
Kansas (9-2)

1969
@ Navy (1-9)
Colorado (8-3)
@ Kansas State (5-5)
West Virginia (10-1)
@ Syracuse (5-5)
Ohio (5-4-1)
Boston College (5-4)
Maryland (3-7)
@ Pitt (4-6)
@ NC State (3-6-1)
Missouri (9-2)

1973
@ Stanford (7-4)
@ Navy (4-7)
Iowa (0-11)
@ Air Force (6-4)
Army (0-10)
@ Syracuse (2-9)
West Virginia (6-5)
@ Maryland (8-4)
NC State (9-3)
Ohio (5-5)
Pitt (6-5-1)
LSU (9-3)

So, without bowl games, that's a combined opponent record of 145-173-3 in those three undefeated season.

They actually played what I would consider a tough schedule in '82 but learned their lesson and got back to their Boise State ways in '86 by toning down the regular season matchup to one good team.

Of course, it's the grand conspiracy keeping them down now that they are playing in a real conference and not the fact that they aren't playing a clown school schedule anymore.
