Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

There was no greater example of Rich Rod's snake-oil salesmanship than when he convinced Adam 'Pac-Man' Jones to choose WVU over Harvard at the eleventh hour, save perhaps for the time he snagged Chris Henry away from Princeton.

Nice to see you back ORD. People were getting worried about you. Thinking you might be.....

damian marley in too deep - YouTube

Edit: Can anyone honestly do a parody song? I mean seriously these lyrics...

Want to commit suicide
Cause you've been denied your 9 to 5
You're in 2 deep
If you're over 10
And watch CNN and believe everything
You're in 2 deep
And your 35
And you still survive, idle pon corner side
You're in 2 deep
And your 55
And don't have a child, for your joy & your pride
You're in 2 deep

practically rewrite themselves for PSU...

Want to commit suicide
Cause you've been denied your 409
You're in 2 deep
And If you're 10
And shower at St. Penn
You're in 2 deep
And your 35
And your career starts to thrive, being idle bout a pedophile crime
You're in 2 deep
And your 55
And think a child, is a toy for you and Astroglide
You're in 2 deep

BTN Bus Tour at PSU today.

@BTNDaveRevsine
#PennState's SID staff says their scholarship player count is in the "low 70's" right now

@BTNDaveRevsine
If they can avoid injuries at key positions, this will not be a bad #PennState team - solidly middle of the pack of those we've seen

@BTNDaveRevsine
Obviously - Issue for #PennState will be trying to sustain that going forward. An immense challenge, to say the least

That's right, they're solidly 'middle of the pack,' and it will be an immense challenge to even sustain that. Of course, everyone that isn't a member of BWI already knew this ...

There were/are prisons named Harvard and Princeton? Whodathunkit?

Remember when those herpes sores up north looked to wvu as a predictor of future success?

Ok, disclaiming the fact that I'm drinking and on vacation...

What the [censored]? It's fall ball in Columbus. We are in [censored]ing training camp. We have [censored]ing Urban [censored]ing Meyer as our head coach... Luke is still our DC, we have an incredible coaching staff and a group of kids who are likely to play at a level they've never played in their lives, yet we continue to populate a thread about coaches from another team who were highly derelict in their duties? Not to take away from the gravity of the scale of their colossal [censored] up, but it's Buckeye Time.

Jesus, it's time for all of us to [censored]ing walk away from the pedos and focus on all the great things that are starting in the 43210.

Pointing fingers at others shortcomings is something that little brothers do. We are THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. We are Buckeyes. [censored] the rest of 'em.

That is all...

That's...uhhh....like your opinion....Man.

Personally, I don't care about who's making a move on the depth charts. I don't care about looking at pics of the freshmen checking into the hotel. I don't care about recruiting. When there are games being played, I care about football. I realize that doesn't make me much of a super fan, but to each his own. Honestly, I find the meltdown in Happy Valley (along with some of the larger and more important issues) that caused it to be more interesting than who our third string cb is going to be.

Those are some great examples of "success with honor" as well... or at least Penn State's definition of it.

Third, the NCAA limit is 85 athletic scholarships. In wrestling, a squad of 30 kids gets exactly 9.9 NCAA-approved athletic scholarships. Am I talking about partial scholarships? No - those aren't allowed in football at the FBS level. I'm talking about any type of scholarship that is not an NCAA athletic scholarship. These are fairly commonplace in some of the lesser known sports - and, even in big boy football. For example, Bear Bryant endowed scholarships to allow the children of each of his players to attend Alabama on a partial or full scholarship. That's right. If you are the son or daughter of a player for Bear Bryant - whether Dad was an All-America QB or a 5th-string punter - you get a discount or full ride to Tuscaloosa (that's a pretty cool legacy, too). The point being, there are vehicles for subsidizing a student-athlete's expenses other than the NCAA athletic scholarship.

So, have you backed away from the ledge yet? Most (non-SEC) schools can not maximize those 85 scholarships, so the practical impact of our sanctions is some amount less than 20 scholarships. And, given that Penn State has a strong tradition in its preferred walk-on program (McGloin, Zug, Norworod, Hull, just to name a few), and has the means to subsidize student expenses through a host of non-athletic scholarships, Bill O'Brien can minimize the impact of the sanctions by mining under-recruited talent and developing it.

Am I the only one who nearly choked to death laughing after reading that?

You would think that bloggers for 'no NCAA violations' U would actually have an idea of what constitutes an NCAA violation.

Nope instead we have one stating confidently that it would be fine & dandy for PSU to stockpile players by giving them non-football scholarships.

I won't even touch on the belief that O'Gravy has extensive experience in managing NFL rosters. I had no idea that was one of the duties of assistant coaches.

Shine on you brilliant diamonds! Shine on!

Isn't there some rule about using scholarships from other athletic departments to "subsidize football ? Or basketball?
And if it was actually possible, wouldn't the SEC or somebody already have done it?
And how would the track coach and the wrestling coach feel about giving they're scholarships to football players?
Even mighty USC is going to face the music at some point in the near future. And Ped State is not USC.
The delusion is just pathetic and laughable.

I asked this once and didn't remember to check to see if anybody answered it. When Penn State got their sanctions, did anybody say the culture change was needed because PSU was stressing football over academics, or just stressing football over common decency like preventing an adult from raping a child?

Every time they cry about the sanctions they sarcastically talk about how the football over academics culture....but I don't remember academics being the point of that Penn State Culture speach.

Here is a direct quote from Emmert:

"One of the grave dangers stemming from our love of sports is that the sports themselves can become 'too big to fail,' or even too big to challenge. The result can be an erosion of academic values that are replaced by the value of hero worship and winning at all costs. All involved in intercollegiate athletics must be watchful that programs and individuals do not overwhelm the values of higher education."

So, I guess yes, academics are mentioned, but not necessarily in the same way the BWI people do.
